Hello all, I'm Caitlin :]
I've been working in a pet store for quite some time now and somewhat recently took over the aquatics department. I have a 120 reef tank that i started setting up in june. Due to my poor pay I do not have much in my tank, though i don't mind doing everything slowly. I feel it's giving me more time to figure stuff out. I did not realize how different having a home salt tank would be from the ones in my store. It is definitely the coolest thing I have ever created and put together.

Welcome!

Welcome to R2R!

I definitely know how that goes, I just quit as the specialty/fish manager at a pet store chain. The struggle is real, especially with all the drool worthy tanks on here. But DIY and slow and steady will get you there. Does your tank have a thread yet? I wanna see!

it does not have a thread yet, at the moment I'm having a little bit of a hair algae problem and that is not something I'd wanna show off haha. I'm trying to get a kole tang they just never ship me the **** things, or when they do they come in sick and unhealthy. I keep my fish at my store so i can quarantine them there since the store is about 2 minutes from my house.

Welcome Caitlin, we are glad to have you! I too once worked as a manager at a pet store. Please don't hesitate to show your tank regardless of how it looks. This is an abundantly friendly community, and many of us have frugal methods to make this hobby enjoyable yet affordable. I haven't garnered much of your experience, but it already sounds like you have the greatest pillar of this hobby conquered... patience. Lordy, I wish I had that when I was younger.

Actually I have almost no patience but when it comes to my tank I do. I kinda have no choice, fish and stuff is expensive and I have no money. though i recently brought home a fire tempest due to the not so ideal conditions at my store. I'm currently trying to bring it back to beautiful life.

Hey caitlin, you mentioned your hair algae problem.......just make an (ats) algae turf scrubber. It is super cheap to build and in my opinion is the magical wand to this hobby. Look them up and check it out. I suffered from high nitrates forever and I was constantly doing water changes and it never worked. About three weeks after using an ats they are now nearly 0 ppm.
