Hello..
Love saltwater. Have a 30gal tank with just an LED hood and pump. Have tried coral in the past only to lose them after a month because I don't know what I'm doing with food, lighting, and don't have a skimmer. Fancy add ons sound intimidating to me and maybe too costly. Hoping I can learn how to step up this tank this year and find some success with coral.

Welcome to R2R!

Off to a start, just read through the stickies and other build threads. With so many choices out there it can be intimidating, even to the long term reefer. Research your purchases and you should be good.

One of the important things for having a successful tank/reef is a Avatar ;) make sure you make one
Reading is foremost important to understand why you need some equipment to be succesful and it doesn't have to cost a fortune.
Google if in the City or area you live if it has a Local Fish/Marine Club, most of the time you see some pretty good equipment for cheap on there.
But enjoy your tank as it is and read but as already mentioned ask a lot, post on R2R as much as you want to get where you want to be.
Oh one more thing 30 gallon might not be big enough after a while for your Yellow Tangs, again read up.

Welcome to R2R!! Watch the Yellow Tangs, they get pretty big and aggressive for a 30G IMO.

Welcome home, you will love it here! :)

Welcome, Jennegage!

The level of information - and comraderie - around this place is about as good as it gets! You'll learn a lot about keeping corals here, on whatever budget you're working with. The folks here are concerned about the health of your charges and about your happiness - which usually go pretty much hand-in-hand.

All that having been said ... I only see one yellow tang. (Not that a 30gallon is an ideal home for a tang...) I think the paler one is printed on the background? (~_^)

I would guess that there are some corals you could keep with your current lighting, or with a small upgrade. Many of the soft corals can get by with relatively little light if the water conditions are good - although the hoods that come with most tanks are pretty minimal, even for fish.

~Bruce, glad you've found your way here.

Thank you everyone. Im working on a nitrate issue. Was wondering what yas thought about soaking my live rock in vinegar. Is it a safe option?

Soaking liverock in straight vinegar doesn't sound like a great idea to me . . . though I'm about as far from a "pro" as you can get.

I would think that'd pretty much do in all the "live" in your rock.
