Thanks and I’m looking forward to broaden my knowledge with the help of reef2reef and hopefully help others

Hi and welcome to the forum, we are also from the Uk

When looking at your alkalinity and calcium balance, it may be due to your salt. A test of your freshly made salt water will help to identify if the salt is the problem. Did you mix the salt in your bucket before you used it? Sometimes the various parts settle out in transit.

Thanks, I use Ro system in my garage and mix the salt by hand in a 80 litre bin that has a heater and a circulation pump to help with the mix as well. That’s one thing I will try is to check the calcium and alkalinity before putting the mixed water into my tank,

Hello Lorenzo

I had to scroll up to remember your name. My memory isn’t too sharp anymore and it’s very frustrating, as I’m sure you know.

If you don’t have algae issues and the coral are living then I don’t think you need to work harder to get nitrate readings lower. Trying to move Calcium away from the value of your salt is also a challenge that you don’t need as long as there is enough present. For Dkh I would try to keep that very stable and not fret too much over the nitrate and Calcium. If your coral is doing ok then you’re doing it right-enough.

Try and enjoy the tank more, and Welcome to Reef2Reef!
Thank you for your advice KrisReef much appreciated, I’m sure it’s because I recently changed salts to the Red Sea pro salt which reading up on it is ideal for Sps corals which I only have a few

Thanks, sorry for your lost, Alzheimer’s and dementia is a terrible disease, to know a partner that was intelligent and capable has turned to child like very hard to cope with, Liz means the world to me and I will keep her at home as long possible, but on the plus side I am looking forward to learn and also give my input to people on reef2reef

Welcome to the family. I'm sure you will get the help you need from our awesome community. I admire your strength and devotion through such a devastating condition. Takes a lot of love to do what you do.

Thanks, and glad to be aboard

Welcome to R2R! I also admire your strength and devotion to your wife, and I’m very sorry for what you are both going through ... I can only imagine how hard it must be.

But, it’s amazing that you can help bring her peace with your beautiful tanks... and that you are able to stay home and care for her. Thanks for joining, and do start a tank journal so we can follow along!

Oh, and congratulations on your first grandchild!

I have a few things:
  1. Weclome to R2R! You are going to love it here.
  2. I'm scolding you for having these fabulous tanks and not joining our group until today! Wow! Beautiful.
  3. Please start up some build threads under "member tanks". We would love to follow the progress and additions you make to your tanks.
  4. My mother-in-law had dementia and it was a heart breaking thing for our family (especially my father-in-law) to go through. Feel free to message me if you ever want to discuss it with someone who has been there. While she was not my life partner, I saw/know what it can do. So I'm here if you ever need to talk, vent, or just chat about nothing to get your mind off of things.

Thanks, and for the invitation. My wife even though she was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s in 2015 I think it goes further back, Liz has everything possible wrong that Alzheimer’s can give, her mobility, space awareness, no conversation, recognition of me, in continence. It is hard at times but managed to get support for when I can take time out and go the gym 3 times a week to recharge my batteries. This does help me in that l can carry on looking after Liz., yes she will always be Liz to me no matter what. Right now will but that aside and hopefully meet nice people like yourself and talk about the love of marine aquariums, corals, fish and getting and giving advice to the people on reef2reef.
Once again thanks for you kind comments

Thanks, so kind for you comments, there are so many nice people I am just hooked on this hobby, just to think you have got a bit of the ocean in your home how cool is that. Will definitely keep everyone updated on how my tank progresses sharing ideas and information. Bye for now
