So I got a mini maxi from my lfs, paid 16$ on sale, and it’s super cool.
That said my tank is fairly new (but parameters holding strong and steady, everything is pretty much where it needs to be)
I didn’t really think that a newer tank would be an issue, I assumed that was just a regular anemone thing, so that’s bad my bad.
Now I want to ensure it does the best it can in my tank.
I’m attaching some photos of yesterday, and now it is today.
After a 2hr acclimation I put it in the tank, and it just stayed balled up for a few hours, normal.
After the lights darkened a few hours later it was still balled up but starting to open up slowly.
So today it’s now on the side of the glass, seems to be digging it’s foot down, maybe?
I figured by now it would be situated..
still has good color, but the foot has some redness probably from the lfs getting it out.
My lighting is a marine orbit ic pro. It’s a 2strip fixture, the par values put my tank at medium to upper medium at the top, but I read mini maxis tend to like medium light and flow, so I started it out on the bottom.
I’d rather not move him manually unless I need to.
Here’s my most recent params.
1.025 sg
No amm.
No nitrite
<1ppm nitrate
10dkh alk
<.1 pho
Cal 400ish
Mag 1300
Iodide and strontium I haven’t checked but just started dosing today
Tank is an innovative marine nuvo fusion peninsula 20
Just running carbon 3days a week and filterfloss 24/7

78.8degress all day

Be careful dosing iodide and strontium. In fact, don’t dose it at all unless you plan on testing for it while dosing. A partial water change would like replenish both of those and be better overall
It’s in the 2part nano reef I bought, today was my only time dosing it I’ll stop until I can test, good lookin out.

It’s Kent nano reef 2part calcium and buffering system for smaller tanks.
Started today, not much in the tank so was planning for now not dosing more than twice a week.
Just a single head hammer, a 14polyp frag of zoa, a chunk of gsp, a mystery chalice, and now the maxi.
Adding 4polpy candy cane, a Kenya, and a blue mushroom or two this week, so still won’t be a lot.

Is he footing in the rock tonight?

The pictures loaded not in order, but the foot on the glass is the most recent. It’s dropped the substrate from lfs and it’s beside the carpet now.
It seems further down the glass than it was this morning but I wasn’t really checking I leave for work at 6am so usually I just plow out the door.

Don't be surprised if he doesn't split. My son's split in less than 24 hours. That's the only time it has split though.

Lots of beautiful RFA on the site to look at!

your alk is a bit high , these guys that run super alk have sps only tanks that suck it down overnight basically . try to shoot for 8.5 ish your coral will be much more happy, if its a hot mix salt , it will take a few months (2 ish ) to get down to normal levels in such a lightly stocked tank. feed it once a week silverside also try to shoot for 100 par or lower area

I’ll keep that in mind. I don’t think I’ll really do much sps at all.
I think that nano reef also buffers alk down a bit so I’ll check those readings in a few days. Anything else I can use to bring that down a bit consistently?
Would that be effecting the mini max

It could be the reason he is *****, 1st thing that looks like to me . Then your posted your stuff so it makes sense to me , I dont know what people use to lower it , I use a salt mix that mixes to 8.8 ish specifically because i keep mixed reefs and dont want hot/ water I have had my best results with 8.5 - 8.8 dkh

Dont be too sad these things are absolute tanks , I have nursed them back from being white with no stickyness , he is just being fussy about his new digs if he sticks o your fingers hes golden make sure to feed him though a silverside a week at least , we make a slurry for all our RFAs, Mini maxis, and feed them the silversides !

He’s super sticky for sure.
At some point would it be wise to get him unstuck and move him to a new location? Maybe I can increase flow to get him to anchor better, or maybe ye just likes this little spot, though his mouth is no longer visible.
