NEW MORPH OF NUCLEAR GREEN!!!! jk

You know who that is right? He goes by the name The Propagator at Nano-Reef.com.

They look like green protopalys to me.

yeah, I dk why they are called nuclear greens. But for the price he doesnt seem to be passing them off as anything crazy.

He actually says in his item description that HE calls them nuclear greens but that he knows that isn't what they are called on zoaid. I don't think he is trying to fool anyone. Anyway, I've heard he's a really decent guy though I've never personally dealt with him.

Duane's a great guy to deal with - and the originator of the PPRPE's (although I came up with the name for him)

He is a pretty cool dude, I can see in his description that he isn't saying that they are the" Nuclear Greens"......

Yea no doubt, Duane is a very fair, cool person to deal with.

Up for auction this week is a

NICE 10-12 POLYP FRAG OF

WHAT I CALL NUCLEAR GREEN PALYTHOAS !!

For 5 bucks i don't think he's scamming.

Just my opinion people, NO disrespect to the seller.

I just think that, as a seller it would help to abide by "common names"

I dont think it does anyone any good to call a polyp by any name they feel like at the time. If I have a purple paly that I want to sell, does it do anyone any good if I say "I call it 'purple death'" even if I know it's not "THE" PD???

I just think that once a name has been established for a certain morph,
it doesn't do any good to confuse people by using the phrase "I call it"

when a seller COPIES A NAME ALREADY GIVEN TO ANOTHER MORPH when clearly theirs is not the same and they know it, regardless of wat they say in their selling description, theres obvious intention to have a bit of rub off with the high end nuclear green morph onto their own morph for the sole purpose of trying to sell at better price (ie the name is purposely used for financial gain)

you wont see the same sellers calling their TRUE NUCLEAR GREEN (if they selling them) by the name of radioactive dragon eye would you lol

the sole purpose of trying to sell at better price

What? You mean people are trying to make things sound better to sell them for more so they can make more money? No way! :hammer:

I'm pretty sure there's an entire field of education/business related to this, it's called Marketing. You're allowed to call them whatever you want, that's the beauty of a free-speech society. Do I agree with it? Not necessarily...but you'll notice they also didn't sell for the five bucks he asked.

you are completely missing the point......the issue at hand is not whether or not he has the right to use the name...of course, he can call it whatever the heck he wants!!!! hell, we have a fellow reefer up here in Canada doing the same thing....he's got his "version" of Armageddons that he sells on his site. ...and lo and behold, he doesn't give two s**ts about Zoaid, too!

...what Duane IS doing is CONFUSING (MISLEADING?) the market (and i'm strictly talking about the newbies and zoa virgins who WANT the best stuff, but don't have the experience and knowlege to differentiate what is "real/true" and what is not.

case in point.....he's selling the SAME green paly under another name....

how is someone less-learned than us going to make an informed decision when he sees crap like this on Ebay? ANSWER: that's why we have ZOAID! (many thanks to Who Dah?!!!!)

Duane, it seems, just wants to make a quick buck and he has no qualms about how accurate his item descriptions are....more power to him...these people come a-dime-a-dozen, IME.....capitalism hard at work, yo

and FWIW, PPRPE is prolly the most retarded name i've ever heard for a zoanthid....hahah sorry...had to get that off my chest!

I don't agree with it either, and I see your point entirely. My point was that even on ZoaID (and I have some pics up there and reference it quite a bit,, it's a great site) there are some pictures and names I find questionable. Basing a "common name" on something as variable as the color of any coral is really self-defeating at best. I've seen many corals go from tank to tank and look like one thing in one and another in another, so it's dang near impossible to ID anything 100%.

Again, I don't agree with it, but I also don't feel the need to censor it that strongly. Anyone who would spend big bucks on a coral (or anything) should be doing their research beforehand, not after they think they might have spent too much. It's not like he's selling a Yugo with a Ferrari tag on it and calling it a genuine Ferrari. A "common name" is just that. My RPE may be different from your RPE...heck, the pictures on ZoaID (some of which are mine, and they look different now just a couple months later even) for the RPEs show what are probably a bunch of different corals. So, which witch is which?

If you like it, buy it. If you don't, don't. If you spend too much money on something and you didn't do your research beforehand, I personally have very little pity. This is the information age, and a quick Google search of the paly/zoa in question should yield results....if you can't even do that, then you only have yourself to blame.

heck there are no rules calling stuff wat you want lol, using a name in error is quite a regular occurence.

the principle of copying a high end morph's name on something when there are loads other names he could copy if thats his way obviously shows a hidden motive which is quite clear to most people on here, ie to try catch out the less informed....

to those that say do your research first i say..... well i think you'll find lots of wife's and g/f and family members will purchase stuff for pressie's/surprise gifts etc for those in their family with a reef tank without knowing anything but the associated name the morph goes by..... so theres your market.

associating names to morphs is cool but also a powerful tool that can and will be abused by some unscrupulous people.

on a more humourous note is there any high end morph you are looking for RCS and can i have a family member email (i may be able to help out) lol

you guys are insane
to a noob, they dont know names to begin with so trying to say that hes trying to fool noobs is a bit much
when you hear nuclear green what do you think of? intense green or glowing green, which they probably are
and if he was TRYING to make a quick buck, they would actuall sell...dont you think?

once again, another one misses the point.

- the noobs we are referring to are the noobs who are keen on collecting the best zoas, but aren't too familiar with the names and their relative scarcity.....99% of the "hard-core" zoa collectors on this site all started off as this kind of "noob"

again, we're not talking about the noobs who want a "nemo tank" cuz they saw it in Finding Nemo or whatever

- he is trying to make a quick buck...that's why they're priced so low and exactly why he's using a well known, already established name to bring some sort of familiarity to his item.....sorta like a PARASITE, if you will

- oh yeah, i'd hazard to guess they didn't sell cuz they're ugly green sand polyps.....plain and simple.......nobody in their right mind wants those....OK, OK...i do have a few in my tank...i gotta admit hehehe

I think this is a perfect example of why people should NOT buy corals based on the names unless you know exactly what it looks like so you can spot an imposter. Since nobody has a patent on Nuclear Greens, really anyone can call any coral they want that name. It's pretty obvious in my eyes that he put up that name so people would see it in the description and look at the auction.

While it's probably something I wouldn't do as I wouldn't want to muddy my name (anymore that I already on my own, ) but I don't know if I would go so far as to say he's scamming anyone.

Now if he would have put that up there and then shown a pic of actual nuclear greens, then sent you those instead. I think that would be bad news...

I agree completely. I don't go by names but what I like, even if it is called backwoodsbrowneyedbuttwipe zoanthids I wouldn't know. I saw that auction and looked, but I look at all of the zoa's, and didn't feel he was trying to pass it off as anything other then it was. In the description he give, three words stuck out like a sore thumb to me, "what I call". I don't feel he was trying to misrepresent as it was stated clearly what you would receive, either you like the polyps or don't.

backwoodsbrowneyedbuttwipe zoanthids

Where can I get me some o' these? :hammer:

I think everyone gets the point, regardless (or if you like non-words, irregardless) of what others are posting. Life's tough sometimes, deal with it. If someone bought it for you as a present, be thankful. If they paid too much, well, it's not your money.

I will speak up as a noob to the coral community. I have several of these guys in my tank from e-bay and they were called nuclear green palys as well. Mine were from a different e-bayer. The name was not what led me to purchase these guys it was the color. Which by the way I have yet to get any zoo or paly that looked exactly like the pic. The only thing close were the eagle eyes.
I am trying to learn names, but alot of sights have different names for the same corals. Not to mention seems like most of the zoos and palys in my tank I cannot ID on any site.
All in all I figure if it looks nice I will buy it, unless its rediculously priced per polyp. I mean is it worth 50-100 a polyp? And whos to say its rare?
