hey everyone, yesterday I got a new mystery wrasse from an online vendor and I put him directly into a quarantine along with another fish I bought. He was acting fine yesterday, ate frozen brine like a PIG. This morning, I noticed the left side of his body and eye looked like this, his left fin was also clamped. He’s no longer interested in food. I assumed it was flukes so I already dosed the tank with some general cure, I also have Prazipro on hand but decided to go with the general cure. Can anybody chime in? I’d like to know what everyone thinks about his sickness.

Can you get a more clear picture of the side of the fish?

I see the cloudy eye. I'm just curious to see more of the side of the fish.

Yes ofc, he’s hiding in the PVC pipe right now so it is a bit difficult, but here’s another pic from earlier

This sucks. I've had my fair share of wrasses' deaths recently. Hope it pulls through.

I agree, it sucks without question. This mystery is such a beautiful specimen I’m hoping he will live. After dosing the general cure, it’s side seems better than this morning.

This is why I no longer buy fish online unless they provide video of it feeding. At LFS I always ask them to feed and only buy if they look alert and eating. Where did you get yours?

Bump! Currently treating with General Cure and Furan 2. Any tips?

I don’t see anything obvious. Internal parasites are a common issue in wrasse. Feeding metroplex and Seachem focus with foods (focus binds it) for 14 days can help. Is the fish breathing heavily?

No he’s not, but he 100% does have internal parasites as his stool was long, stringy, and white. The bacterial infection (I’m assuming) has been eating away his left pectoral fin and the tips of his anal fin and tail fin have white tips on them. The eyes are cloudy and had mucus coming of them this morning. Here’s an up close picture of what i believe is infected the most. It’s as if his scale are peeled up and the slime coat is sloughing off of various parts of only his left side of the body.

UPDATE:
Since posting this, I am now on the second dose of Furan 2. The wound seems to getting smaller, and his cloudy eye also seems to be getting better. The wrasse 100% has internal parasites but I can’t even get him to eat. Any ideas??

It’s as if his scales are raised up.

Who did you buy from? That fish looks like it's suffering from a myriad of bacterial infections.

Step 1 to any new fish is RODI Fresh Water Bath immediately. It knocked off EVERYTHING and gives the fish a fighting chance. It will even slow down velvet, and brook for a few days so you can start feeding the fish a wide variety of foods (the only way to keep fish healthy is to offer every single brand of food you can).

Fishy Business Aquatics, also bought a firefish from them and it died out of the blue recently... they lost my business.
The fish DEFINITELY was suffering from multiple infections. I tried many meds that combat bacterial infections, except Spectogram which I now have on hand.
