i dont get the point in naming a coral? So you can sell it for more than you got it for and claim it to be rare? Im being honest here...

There have been many threads on this debate. Please do not hijack my thread and turn it sour.

The primary reason for naming zoanthids is for ease of identification when trading, etc. For someone like me who has 100+ color morphs of zoanthids it is easier and more appealing to say "purple hornet", than to say "small purple polyp with a yellow ring and alternating yellow and purple skirt".

yeah the naming aspect does have much debate going on, but just like Akwarius said, its more to actually identify between diff morphs of a zoa or paly than to actually try to make more money on something. sorry, didn't mean to comment on that aspect, but i have to agree with you Akwarius. i have had many discussions with friends about this lately.

and Green Nightmares is a great name. look exactly like the nightmares honestly. GREAT GREAT looking zoa right there

Good news and bad news.

The good news is that green nightmares won by a landslide!

The bad news is that the colony melted a couple of days ago. I had kept it alive just fine for two weeks and then, poof! I tried to save it with dips and moving it around the tank, but it was too late. The amphipods made short work of the dying tissue and it was gone without a trace in a matter of two nights. It makes me very sad to think that that small colony could have possibly been the only surviving color morph that still existed in nature- and I killed it! Sorry to disappoint everyone:(

Ah man bummer :(
This would have been so sweet to grow next to regular nightmares. Be on the watchout for more everyone ;)
Just incase...

Indeed that is a bummer - sorry to hear that.

Sounds just like nightmares... ;)

sorry to hear

Thanks for the sentiment guys. Next time I will wait it out before attempting to name and introduce a new zoa morph.

Well even though you lost them you could still submit them as a named coral because the Green Nightmare fits them perfectly. I am sure we will see more in the near future.

Again sorry for the loss, they are really nice
