hey guys im new to doing reef tanks I just started a 10 gallon reef tank I would like to have some tips before I put coral in it I will be getting a new light soon
Can you tell a more about it? Filter? Lights? A 10g is difficult to keep stable because of its size but it can be done if you're on top of it. I have a 12g nano which was not my first aquarium but was my first saltwater. I kept it with fish and live rock only for 3 years then began to add coral. You certainly don't have to wait that long but IMO I'd add a few fish first and let the tank mature for a few months. The type of coral you keep will depend on your lighting/filtration but soft corals like zoas are generally the easiest to start with. Tell us more about your setup!
my filter is just a regular hang on back filter its rated for 20 gallon tank the only one I could get for now and the light that im getting is innovative marine skkye led light 14,000k im gonna be doing mushrooms and some soft corals not sure of what I want to get yet
Sounds good about the type of corals. The hang on back filters can start producing nitrates if the filter media gets dirty. But on that size tank, you could keep the levels down with water changes. In the future you might want to consider a sump so you can add more filter media. Good luck!
thanks hopefully I do better do u have an Idea for a powerhead I need one that's real small for my 10 gallon the one I just got was way to big and was sturring everything up none of my stores in my area have smaller than 500 gph
