Hey folks,

I got the green light to bring in a small aquarium into my office, and I am looking for something small. I would prefer under 5 gallons, I mainly intend to keep inverts and easy corals like zoas. I have been researching tanks, and Bulk Reef Supply has a full kit for 299.99, and it sounds like it would be ideal for my situation. Has anyone here had experience with this tank? Will the stock lighting be enough, or would I need to upgrade to something else? I appreciate your feedback.

Here is the tank:

It looks decent for what you want to do. I enjoyed this LifeGuard 7-gallon (slant-nose) AIO, if you want to compare to a glass tank. I’m not sure how it prices out these days. Best wishes!

I set up a little 8 gallon zoa tank. It was beautiful. Within three months I was so jazzed about zoas that I upgraded to a mini peninsula 15 gallon. I guess my advice is to go a little bigger. There will be more room and it will be a little less work.

I know it’s larger than you’re after, but the 10gal Waterbox Cube is a nice setup. I setup one for my daughter and she ran it on her nightstand next to her bed. I replaced the cheap Chinese return pump with a Sicce Nano and it’s dead silent. I use it as a frag tank for SPS that I pull out of my display.

“If” you need a powerhead (like maybe to keep some leathers blown off so they can ‘shed’), in anything up to the 10-gallon range (some of which is devoted to the back of the house / AIO side), you only need a very tiny powerhead. Just to direct some specific flow, if that.

Completely understand that sentiment. I plan on doing a Zoa Garden with maybe a few other things. I really like frog spawns and such as well.

I’ll definitely give it a look.
