I have an autotopoff .com unit and while I love it, it makes a very loud click when it turns off and on. Can anyone recommended an reliable top off that doesn't use a solid state relay? And uses two float switches?

I have one of those too and I don't hear anything, the only issue I have with mine is that it does not fill my sump up to the same height everytime but that might be the pump not the ATO. This is the one I have AutoTopoff.com Perhaps there is an issue with your float switch catching. Saying that I have been thinking of switching to either the Hydor Smart Level Controller or the Tunze Osmolator Universal 3155. These are great ATOs and have great reviews.

For the pump i was also thinking of changing to the BRS Top Off Doser

Hydor Smart Level Controller
Hydor Smart Level Controller Auto Top Off - Bulk Reef Supply

Tunze Osmolator Universal 3155
Tunze Osmolator Universal 3155 - Bulk Reef Supply

BRS Top Off Doser
BRS Top Off Doser ? 50 mL per minute - Bulk Reef Supply

If you can hear it, it's a mechanical relay. Solid states are silent. The standard seems to be the tunze osmolator and that's what I use. I stay away of using float switches for main control. Tunze uses a non-moving optical sensor with a float only as a backup. I had a JBJ along time ago and it didn't work right from the beginning, so I don't recommend that one (uses two floats). Float switches and reliability don't go together IMO.

Hmm.. I wonder if its my aqua lifter then? I have never not used then together. I would really hate to dispose of the top off because it has never come close to failing, but I fall asleep often on my couch and that always wakes me up in the middle of the night, or I could just put it on a timer..hmm

Mine clicks too...its in the basement so it doesn't bother me. Maybe try a work around to muffle the click?

Yea its the top off..I think I'm just going to hook it up to my reef keeper so it doesn't run at night. Also the aqua lifter just dribbles water, I bought a quiet one pump so hopefully it adds a little more water than needed so the intervals are longer between clicks

+1 on the AutoAqua Smart ATO. I have one topping off a 120 from a reservoir within my sump, and it's working great. No float valves to fail. Can not hear a thing from the unit itself, only the alarm telling me I'm out of reservoir water when I forget to fill it!
