Came in the mail today and its opened but the front part of mantle isn't totally covering the scute? Is this a bad sign?

So it definitly is looking better but something is also definitly up with the mantle in the front. Seems to be slightly pinching up. Not too bad at the moment. Hoping it's just an injury from one of the hermits.

Looks fine to me, as much as I hate it since I always wanna help my clams, it will either make it or not and ime unless it’s pyramid snails, or a fish nibbling, we can’t do much to help and it only makes things worse for clams.

However it looks good, not attaching isn’t the best, but that can vary by individual. Parts of my clams mantles pull in for days sometimes. Just an odd thing they do.

Sometimes after a few months mine slowly start retracting and I break off any tube snails and brush the shell for aptasia or anything and they extend fully but I doubt that is the case here. Just keep eye on it.

If you get the clam directly from ORA, then it is unlikely to have disease. QT still recommended, if you have other healthy clams in the system. It the clam shipped to a retailer then to you, then you really need to QT and consider treatment. O course make sure there is nothing there to irritated the clam.

Is that air bubble and mucus at the front part of the mantle?
Take picture in AM when the light on for about an hour, then at about noon and again picture in PM about 1-2 hrs prior to light out. Compare these pictures. If the pinched part stay at the same place day after day, andbetter in AM but get worst as the day go on, and if there are mucus and bubble at the site of the pinched mantle, then you most likely have PMD.

Please spend a little time read this Article or this Thread. Both cover about the same material. I did spend some effort writing it and the knowledge in it cost me dearly. Hope it can help you.

The claim didnt make it. Got worse over a few days and died. They are sending me a new one and it will be here on Tuesday. I think a rogue hermit crab was somewhat responsible.

Do you still have the shell? Does it have good white growth on the shell?
Other than the localized retraced edge of the mantle, with some air bubble/mucus on it, the clam looks good.
Was and will the clams shipped directly from ORA?

Yes, came directly from ORA. Not great shell growth but a little pearly section. I guess it could have been an issue from the shipping.

Hermit crabs and cleaner shrimp can really tear into stressed clams. I tried to get rid of all my crabs. I do have cleaner shrimp but I don’t have them I in my QT. Nothing to pester my new clams. Good luck with your new clam.

The only area that seems off is circled. It's only been in the tank for 3 hours so.

Looks good as far as mantle extension goes. Keep an eye out for new shell growth. Nice maxima.

That area straightened out as they day went on. The clam kept getting knocked over by some hermit crabs so I had t ok move it up and cradled a bit between two rocks. Is it normal to not see any bysal threads yet?
