New Osmolator update

No, the basic unit is unchanged, it simply has built in wifi and can connect to Tunze Hub and from there you can set up text or email notifications.

Tunze HUB is essentially built in, yes, you need to log in but there is no charge, no tracking of personal info, it comes with the device, this is where you will set up all the notifications you want to receive, you can set anything from needing to log in to Tunze HUB to see the status or that you want an email or a text.

The target price I have generally heard has been around $275. I only know development has progressed and I think the target is before the end of the year. The next update due is the Osmolator 3 Nano which should be out in September, the Osmolator 3 Pro I would presume may come around November.

What is the difference between regular and nano versions?

I just bought the 3 for a nano tank

Edit: I found it. Doesn’t look like it’s in the US yet? It’s missing the redundancy aspect which I just don’t understand. In a nano there is zero room for an overfill event

The nano is definitely built to a price point, the logic being that you can set up a nano very inexpensively and there is usually a modest investment in livestock, as a result, there will be very few takers for an ATO that costs more that lights/skimmers etc for a small tank, on a big tank where 10s of thousands are being invested a $230 ATO is trivial and worthwhile. It does have a safety but that is a time limit designed around small tanks as well as reduced pumping power.

They are not yet available, they should be in the US around the end of the month. I believe they will be available in Europe next week.

I might have to scoop up some old units before they become unavailable. I need my alarm.

@rvitko, is the osmolator 3 pro with WiFi gonna show you the number of activations per day, and/or the time of day at which they occurred?

Let's say that I'm out of town, and I want to be sure the tank is being topped up as usual. Can I then log in on the Tunze HUB/cloud, and check the hour, and minute that the osmolator activated and topped up water?
A log like: 16:53 top-up, 18:50 top-up.

Or is the tunze HUB/cloud only for alerts?

Thanks a lot! Just debating if I should wait for the Osmolator 3 Pro/wifi to come out, or if I should get something else now.

To be honest, I do not know, I will ask. This integration is still in the works, I know the main focus has been alerts that the reservoir is empty, the too high sensor activated, that something is installed wrong and water is siphoning, etc, primarily diagnostics and emergencies. I am not sure on a log of run times, I would assume so as there is such a log for heating, pH etc.

I think ATO reservoirs are often oversized for the tank size. A smaller reservoir can add in some safety margin. For example, my 15 gallon AIO reservoir is ~3/4 of a gallon and my 40 gallon AIO ~2 gallons. I imagine, most would probably consider these to be on the smaller side.

Oh neat... my current 3155 has been going strong I think 10 years now!!! Even still the original noisy pump, ha!

Can the new pumps be used on this old one?

Yes, the new pump can be used on the 3155. I believe ReefDudes has a video about it

Thank you, will see if I can find it.
I swapped out the original pump on mine for the High Jet.

Not sure of your tank size, but if you have the internal dial dialed down you will need to raise it so the pump operates.
Hi @rvitko, I have a 3155 and replaced the pump with a high jet. Since I have a small tank, I had it set on nano. The high jet pump would not run until the dial got to ~1/4 of its range (~10 o'clock position). I left it slightly above this position.

No issues, just wondering if that is that expected operation with the high jet and 5017 controller?

Thank you
Yes, that is normal, the High Jet is not a voltage dimmed pump like the original pump, which was a simple DC brush motor so speed was on a 9-12V range, the High Jet needs 12V and converts that to a PWM signal like a typical DC powerhead, the voltage it can work on is a lot tighter.

Absolutely, in general I would never have a reservoir big enough to do in your tank and flood your house.

Just keep in mind there are two variations, the High Jet 5000.021 is the retrofit model, it cannot connect to an Osmolator 3 and vice versa. While the basic pump is the same, to retrofit old units a driver board is needed to convert the signal and run the pump, the 5030 differs in that it has a 3 pin waterproof connector, the driver is not built in and it has 2 way communication with the Osmolator 3 and that is the only unit it can connect to.
