new PE type wild zoa found

but is new morphs just "morphs" or new type where they deserve a new name? like tangs for instance. they have different coloration, same body types but are all different types of fish. just wondering what you all think? Not trying to start a fire. just piquing peoples interest.

Can't compare corals to fish like that. Those different tangs, while having similar body types, have different genetics. I don't know if they have taken it to that point with corals but my guess is that those zoanthids are all the same genus and species and just have different color morphs or possibly different sub-species? Not 100% sure on that one...

Not all zoanthids are the same species, however a single species can exhibit a huge array of color morphs.

thanks guys for the interest. i already submitted it right before i started this thread though.

I would lean towards yes, they are Agaves. No matter what they come out to be, I would be tickled to have found them. They are a beautiful pattern of gigantus and one day I will acquire a frag for my collection.

BTW, I know some of the confusion may be because ZoaID doesn't have those on their list, so here is the originator of the name:
Blue Agave People Eater

I'm sure he meant to say P. gigantus ;).

heheh thanks guys. yeah i'll keep searching for more pe's. they're out there!

Those are Red Halo's. Very similar to Blue Agaves. They display alot of morphs depending on lighting conditions. Here is a pic from my site.

yeah agave/halos i think they're the same just different morphs due to lighting/tank params/etc..etc..

They're not the same. They're very close though. I've had both for over a few years now and I can tell the difference of each morph. It's really hard to explain unless you have both. But Blue agaves tend to maintain their red and show more blue highlights than the Red Halo. Whilst Red Halo tends to show more white blotches or a ring as opposed to Blue Agaves tend to show more speckling.

Are the origin of collection known for both the Red Halo & Blue Agaves ?

i'm looking at mine right now and they don't have that thick white "halo" your's has. as it's growing it's speckling out as you describe the agave's to be. they look exactly like your bottom 2 polyps of blue agave you have posted on your site.

If you notice in my picture there are some that don't have the thick halo either. But if you compare your two pictures with mine they show almost identical similarities including the white halo. Yours are probably already morphing in color in your tank which seems to happen pretty quickly unless you have the right spectrum. I was able to maintain it's colors best with an Iwasaki 15k bulb that was 175w single end. Now I use Phoenix 14k 250w DE bulbs and it they tend to get a creamier color and lose that thick halo. I'm thinking of setting up another tank and using Iwasaki's for some species.

Nice find by the way!1smile1
