Be prepared for an ich outbreak. Feed often with garlic. Sorry but if you didnt QT there is a 99.9% chance this fish will get ich.

Nice fish though... one of my favorite. Can be very aggressive and even kill if you try to add any fish after it's established.

I've had 2 in the past, very cool fish but had all of the problems i've mentioned.

The best way to keep a Powder Blue healthy is to have a tank that is mature(over a year old), that it can eat all the time without being fed. And, like stated above, it will tolerate very few fish being introduced after establishing it's territory, which is the whole tank.

mine was a bit ornery with the tangs I already had in my tank but he quickly settled down and is one of my best fish now,ol yeller put him in his place :) he didn't bother my copperband butterfly or clownfish, which were added after him, but I doubt I could add another tang now

PBT's are extremely beautiful fish, and one of my favorite but they do need a well established big tank and plenty of swimming room, mine is always eating from the rock and walls and never seems to get enough food, but he's fat as a butterball turkey LOL

I feed my tangs small strips of brown nori and spiralina brine shrimp 3 to 4 times a day I just bought a powder blue for 39 bucks, I have it in a forty gal. breeder QT tank. I'm waiting for cuprimine and a copper test kit to arrive. It's suppose to be here tomorrow, to start treatment for ick. I just started soaking it's food with focus and metronidazole. It's suppose to help?

I added a Powder Blue at the same time as 5 yellow tang, 1 yellow belly blue hippo, and 1 powder brown tang. I had a convict tang in the tank prior to. When the powder blue arrived he was super stressed, lacerations visable on his sides. he swam a bit then literally lost vertical balance and was laying down in the corners. the algae blenny in the tank did not like this and pecked at him! I was expecting to see him stuck to one of the vortechs when I got home, but there he was upright, swimming, eating. he chows nori, misys, and spirulina. it has been 3 weeks. I lost one yellow and the convict since then. I think the stress got to them and they weren't eating big. all other tangs doing well including powder blue.

Mine is a camera hog and has to get in every picture. As you can see he's fat and happy. I've had him for a little over two years.

a little something I picked up from PaulB....I use the Omega 3 fish oil capsules from Wal-Mart, just pierce the capsule and squeeze out the oil....I mix the oil with flakes and/or pellets and feed to my fish, the Omega 3 is great for helping the fish to keep a strong immune system.....it's good for us too :)

my PBT did go through a bout of ich and I blame that on not QTing the clownfish that I added later, the clownfish showed signs of ich the day after adding it to my tank, the PBT had never had any sign of ich prior to that, all I did was feed the tank with the Omega 3 mixed in the food 3 or 4 times a week while they showed signs of ich, both fish fought it off naturally....

now I feed the Omega 3 couple times a month along with frozen mysis and frozen brine and the algae sheets for the grazers 3 or 4 times a week, plus I have an auto feeder connected to my tank that gives them a small treat 4 times a day....

I don't QT anymore, and it bit my butt, but all's well now.....I don't recommend not QTing but I always had more problems with tangs when I did QT them, my QT tank was a 20g and not really big enough for a tang and I believe it caused more stress to an already stressed out animal...I want to set up another QT system that can keep a tang long term if needed and a 20g isn't gonna do it, I just don't have the space

I don't use any type of medication and never did when I did QT unless I saw a problem...IMO,a healthy fish in a stress-free environment will fight off ich on its own if it is fed well and can keep its immune system strong, it just takes time and patients

Thank you everyone! I did not put it in a QT tank first, but I did have a lengthy acclimation process. I will continually make sure that there are no signs of ich on him. I will also make sure to feed him once a day to improve his immune system (healthy food). What does everyone recommend for healthy food?

Mine will eat almost anything. Nothing bigger than a brine shrimp though. Won't touch a Mysis. What's important is that it has something to eat ALL THE TIME.

brown nori cut in strips 1/4in x 4in. 3 times a day. plus spirulina brine shrimp a few times a day. they eat all day long in the wild, from what I read.

That's why mine is named Woody. peck, peck, peck - peck, peck, peck.
