just got a tank (84 x 25 x 24) visio brand tank custom sump probably another 20 gallons with where the baffles are at and a custom stand for a good price, the up /down side it needs everything else, I say up side because I can build it the way I want down side I have to buy it all. 16594.jpeg

the sump is nice but not what I would have done, I would have a 4 chamber so I could do a refugium for sure

but the stand has a lot of space so thinking about a separate refugium or mangrove off to the side

I have no set idea on lights except LED, leaning towards kessil ap700 the price tag for two hurts though

I want to do two ecotech marine VorTech MP40wQD on the sides

still researching the return pump, the B&M guy said submergible is the way to go.
will keep you posted, using this forum to help with the decision making for sure

Great looking tank.
The size will kill you on lights and pumps.
The two Kessels will only do good if you create two islands of rock in your tank.
The mp40’s are great pumps but 84”
I would think more the MP60,

so no new pics yet but I have been busy making shopping cart lists at home depot, BRS and aquacave (anyone have any experience with them?) first thing first, RODI set up in laundry room, unfortunately I will be hauling water to the tank. I will have a 15 gallon ATO tank under the stand.

so this is my part list list

return flow set up (duel)
Simplicity 3200 DC
Simplicity 3200 DC
not controller compatible but the price and high flow rate is appealing, I figure the controllers can be next to the apex and ill just have a few buttons to push when I feed, I will hook up to the apex to monitor wattage to make sure they are still running.

power heads
MP60wQD
MP60wQD (the tank is 84 inches long one at each end wouldn't be over kill would it?)
Turbelle Stream 6105
Turbelle Stream 6105 (I want these for the back glass picked these because they swivel )

protein skimmer
Simplicity 540DC Protein Skimmer (kind of a brand guy so I figure my sump will be full of simplicity) this model has a good rating 270 gallon heavy bio load

RO /DI System
150 Gallon Per Day Water Saver Deluxe Plus

lights TBD will be LED

Also I am going to take this slow and purchase cash only, am going to do a FOWLR for a bit so thinking I can get the ball rolling with
live rock and sand.....

and one light fixture, or will I need more to start a Fish only

will be adding a controller to the system as well, I know its the new popular thing but apex is looking pretty good atm.

I ordered everything from BRS. Couldn’t be happier with them. No need to haul water. They sell the tubing by the foot for your RO unit. When I had that issue/ distance ... Probably less than $25 for more tubing. ..to just roll out the line to your tank or trash can next to the tank. Wish I had done it sooner. After years of hauling buckets. .. never again.

I love my Kessil AP700s. I have 2 on my 72in. I think two would be fine for your 84in if you mounted them in the Aquatic life hybrid t5 fixture. That’s what I have. Kessils are at 50% and the tank is super bright. . The shimmer is awesome. I only added the t5s because my tank is 72x30x26. I was worried about the 30in coverage and didn’t want to buy 3 kessils turned sideways. For fish only, you could just have the t5 fixture to start and add the kessils in later. It’s on sale often at BRS just over $400.

that was down the line I was thinking, just get a light for fish then add more when the coral come, the big thing is I don't want to whip out the credit card and I don't want to buy it cheap just to have to rebuy, so a t5 fixture then kessils would be a good path but I was thinking three altogether, 2 to start lps and softies 3rd when I start sps

I think you’ll be happy with that. I actually hung my kessils after painting the room and ceiling ... only to take them down and patch and repaint when I added the Aquatic life fixture. I did all that before the tank was even up. I decided the extra light couldn’t hurt and it would be harder to do once the tank was up..what’s another $500 with bulbs ..lol.

So first order from BRS...….. not the fun one but the one to get the ball rolling,
RODI system and parts ordered, ATO, Plumbing from DT to SUMP that home depot doesn't carry or is just better from BRS, I did get an open box powerhead, I have ordered glass for baffles and the rest of the plumbing from Home depot or lowes.
