I have always wanted to try a magnifica anemone, but never had a large enough tank. When I spotted this nice purple base at the LFS a couple of weeks ago I decided the time was right. I have been reading threads about these nems for years so I got a HT and cipro ready to go just in case I need to treat this beauty. It has not deflated even once since adding it to the tank 7 days ago. The mouth has remained closed except for the occasional pucker. I have noticed a few tents will deflate and then back to normal after a few minutes. I am assuming this is pretty normal, but would love to hear from anyone with experience if I should be concerned about that.

I have two short clips showing the nem with the flow and would like to know if this looks about right. The nem hasn't moved much at all maybe an inch or two since being placed in the tank. I have it about mid way right now as my lights are quite a bit brighter then what it was under at the LFS. I figured I could swap out the bottom rock to make the pedestal higher if it startes reaching for more light. My fingers are crossed here that I won't have to pull it to treat.

Great looking mag, and it sounds like you may have gotten lucky on not needing cipro.
That clown is loving it!

Thank you. yes the clown left its Duncan coral within 5 minutes of the mag being put in the tank.

I am keeping a close eye on the nem so that at the first sign of infection I can start treating it. Do you think the flow is good? I guess it would move if it wasn’t happy, but just not sure how much is too much. I snapped a couple photos tonight after lights out as it looked like it wanted to ball up. It only got halfway and then stopped. I am like a nervous new mom... lol

I'm sure you would know by now if needed treatment.
Looks good and flow looks fine for it, I'm sure you'll be good.

Occs and percs, they usually dive straight into those mags right away, cool to see.

Thank you for your advice. I think I was just expecting to need to treat this nem based on everything I have read. Maybe after a month I will relax a little.

The Occ doesn’t want to share the mag, but my midnight clown keeps trying to suck up... lol.

Tomorrow will be two weeks for the mag in my tank. I noticed yesterday that it has moved a few inches up so that it is more directly under the light as opposed to half of it on the front side of the rock facing the front. It appears to me like it is beginning to stretch up a little more and not lay as flat against the rock. It’s island only reaches about half way up and I am wondering if maybe I should think about raising it up some. Any advice?

Honestly, my friend, it looks happy and very healthy. :)

Awesome and I’m very happy for you.

I’m expecting my magnifica to arrive at my LFS Thursday.

I hope it is as beautiful and stunning as yours!

I hope so too. Fingers crossed it is super healthy also. Be sure and post some photos.

It looks great. Two weeks is what I have found to be the biggest hurdle. Mine “Columns” up, as I call it and becomes more cone like and stretches up but it’s just what they do. Get you another Occ so they can pair up in that big ole house!!!

Mine is over 2' across and is at the highest point in the tank... I'd say to raise the rock that it's on

A little update. It has been 3 weeks now and I decided to go ahead and raise up the island I had the mag on a few days ago. I had to do a little rearranging to find a taller base rock to place its rock on. Both the light and the flow are stronger now, but I think the nem is happy. Its foot has really flattened out on the rock and it seems to continue to expand more and more. My larger occ clown moved in and I do believe I have a pair now. You can see in the video that they are actively chasing the midnight clown away.

Have you measured the PAR value where the Mag is situated?
Just wondering what amount of light they like. I was told they need twice as much as BTAs.

I hear what your saying but think about this.......

I’ve kept BTA’s at 100-300 par

No real rule, BTA’s are very flexible.

So double could be 200-600 par.

FWIW, my current BTA gets 220-240 par.

The location I will be putting my mag will be a bit higher at 300-330 par.

I’ve been watching this thread since it started and the OP has done great!

The island is now situated so that the mag is receiving 310-340 par. That is about the top par in my tank with my current light settings. I have a few sps that are slightly higher up, but the par isn't higher up there. The depth in the tank where two of the lights overlap is the highest, and I kept this in mind when I moved the anemone. I have plenty of room to raise the light levels with upping my percentages if I need to, but at this point everything looks happy in the tank.
