Hello all, I want to upgrade my current qt system to a much larger system. Any suggestions on size, dimensions, sumpless or drilled, etc

Only rule is it most be nice to go in our master bedroom where I have a 300 gallon fish only tank and a 80gal rimless reef tank( soon to be upgraded to a 60x30x18.

So what do you guys think would be a good long term qt tank that could turn into another fish only tank down the road.

I have been catching the "rare fish" bug and will use this qt to also switch out fish in my current display with a more rare version of that species.

Thanks for the help
Don

Would be best to know what fish this QT may house before you can really size it. With QT where medications will be used, the smaller the better...having said that, you need enough volume to process the nitrogen cycle without an ammonia spike. In general for a true QT, you should go sumpless and keep it as simple as possible, no skimmers or other equipment...just a good ole sponge filter. This is a tank you will need to sterilize between usages and you don't want equipment that will strip out your medications. A good QT is a utility, not really something that will remain nice or upgrade into a better tank, though I suppose you can...but then what will you use for QT once the QT is upgraded?

All very good points. See I knew posting this was a good idea. However, I think you should be able to build a nice looking qt/holding tank. Having a cheap skimmer cup off when using meds to provide oxygen. Reactor for removing meds. A cheap sump to hide the equipment along with filter socks and adding marine pure spheres I keep in my display and reef tank to add for biological filtration. I buy most of my fish from tsmcorals and they all are properly qt. Believe me I have visited there and check the qt systems personally so I'm confident there qt. However if I do get a sick fish I will be able to remove and treat or be able to treat in the holding/qt tank.
I plan on housing many higher end and rare angels, tangs, butterfly's and probably wrasses down the road when I learn more about them. So first would be the higher end angels and hybrids. As I get what I want I will replace fish from my main display and need a place to house them until I can sell them to other hobbyist. And if this tank transfers into a permanent tank then I would set back up the 40breeder on the nice stand I bought for it. And move everything to the NEW FISH ROOM! I will finally have a good reason to build one lol
