Hello everyone I recently followed a video on setting up a new qt tank from BRS videos on YT, to QT all my fishs before moving them to my DT. It’s a small 10G QT with a small hang on the back filter w out any filter on it because I am running copper. I am doing 50-70% wc every 3 days. How ever today I noticed the water getting cloudy I tested and everything is good as far as parameter wise 0 ammo, 0nitrite, and fish look a lot better since they were stressed from the introduction. They are eating like a champ. My question is can I run a bubbler stone w the hang in the back filter which honestly I have it on for current because no matter what a power head it’s to small of a tank.. and would it help the cloudiness.

Yes on the airstone - it can only help. As for the cloudiness, it could be a bacterial bloom but it's hard to say without pics and more information.

GM, here is a pic. Pictures actually does no justice on the cloudiness as far as información ask away i pretty much explained everything I’ve done till date

I am brand new. I too have cloudy water in the brand new 10 gallon QT tank. It has a heater and a HOB. I set it up Saturday (March 9) night with water, added some nitrifying bacteria and some ammonium chloride to kick off the cycle. Not sure how successful this will be since it is a bare tank....no sand, no rock. Water was crystal clear at 6:00 pm on Sunday but at 11:00 pm it was cloudy. The only thing I can think of it that it is near a window so could it be a bacteria bloom? Hope to have my first fish soon (a pair of clowns) and am hesitant to put them in with the cloudy water. Thoughts?

The cloudy water is most likely a bacteria bloom, with a side chance of something on the new equipment that triggered it. Keep the sponge in your HoB filter. This will allow a place for the bacteria to settle and won't absorb the copper the way that rocks would.

Make sure there is plenty of aeration during blooms like this as oxygen can be sucked up more rapidly. Surface agitation and air stones.

lol.....After I posted, I added an air stone, came back and saw your reply. Thank you!!! While I have your attention, I set up my DT almost 3 months ago and it cycled within 2 weeks and has been waiting for fish ... with the holidays and vacation, I didn't want to add fish and then leave them to a neighbor. So now we're ready. Current parameters are ammonia - 0, nitrites -0, ph 8.3 and nitrates 20...with nothing in the tank and no lights on, I haven't gotten an algae...no ugly stage. Is that normal? Can I assume that it will begin once I add livestock? I am getting a pair of clowns (I know...so cliche) and plan to QT them (even though they are captive bred) for 30 days to be 100% safe...in the meantime is there something I can add to the DT to get the ugly stage going so that when the clowns are added, that phase is over? Again, thanks

Nothing needs to be added to the display. The ugly phase doesn't really kick in until around month 4 or 6. Mine lasted all the way close to a year old. Keeping the lights off will reduce and delay the onset. No need to measure nitrite anymore. It's not a necessary reading once cycle is handled.

As for your new friends I recommend following the guide posted here to ensure long term success.

Ok…I absolutely intend to follow that QT procedure. I’ve received the Copper, prazi, etc last week and had printed out all the instructions and put them next to my QT tank. The clowns I’m getting are ORA captive bred so I’m not anticipating any dramas during the quarantine period. Should I do a fresh water and hydrogen peroxide dip before putting them in QT? I just want to do everything possible to avoid introducing any ich or parasites into my DT. Thanks again for your help!
