So i purchased a Rainford Goby yesterday. I placed him in an acclimation box and observed him for a few hours before releasing him to the display . His breathing and swimming looked normal. He found a cave and remained in it until lights came off. Later on at night, i checked in and he was out of the cave swimming around. This morning, no signs of him. I added a Tailspot Blenny to the display as well at the same time. He is fine and he was acclimated along with the goby. I know this species is very shy. I guess im just looking for any one who has experience with this fish. I dont think he is dead as all the parameters are fine and he wasn't displaying any behavior that would be a cause for concern. Checked the floors around the tank incase he jumped which i haven't seen as a common issue for this fish.

Thanks in advance for any info !

They are shy. It is not all that unusual for them to go into hiding at first, sometimes even for weeks. Rainfords and Hectors are two of my favorite gobies. Just keep an eye out for him.

if you have an overflow box, check behind the weir box. i've had multiple fish and even snails hide behind there until they were comfortable coming out.

give it another day or two before worrying.

Cool, thanks for the response ! I have him in a 20 gallon thats been up for about 8 months. I have pods in the tank so hopefully he will be eating while he gets accustomed to his new environment . Do you find it relatively easy to keep ? Would appreciate any tips or insight !

Its a Nuvo 20. I checked the filtration area and nothing in the back chambers.

Will do. I always worry when adding a new fish ! I find it to be one of the most stressful things to do in the hobby lol

Yes, I would consider them easy to keep. They tend to stay low in the tank and pick at algae but I'm not convinced they actually eat it. They are rarely, if ever, confrontational with other species in the tank. Very peaceful addition. Having pods is always a good thing. I've had fish 'disappear' for up to a month and suddenly show up none the worse for wear.

the first 3 days are probably the most nerve-racking. just monitor and hope for the best. since it has come out at night, maybe monitor the tank at night to see if you find it?

my court jester goby was good at hide and seek(before it found its sleeping spot)

Just an update. Tailspot blenny fine. No signs of the goby ! Killing me lol

Any update on this ? I just got a Rainford's goby today, and although it was out for a few hours, it came up M.I.A. about an hour before lights out. Same situation for me... I have looked all around the tank and in every little crevice (inside and out) that I could find... Houdini...
