I was looking over my tank and noticed these red “hairs” growing out of one of the rocks. I’ve seen dragons breath algae but not sure it this is the beginning stages of that. Should I be worried about this as an issue or is it safe.

Algae is only a problem when it becomes a problem. I used to add different macro algae on purpose until I got an emerald crab and lawnmower blenny. It was like an all you can eat buffet for them... no more macro algae. I dont view anything that isn't out of control as a problem. Just more diversity in my little slice of the ocean.

Yea I agree. But these spots literally popped up over might. So I’d rather identify the problem/item and have a plan Incase things do get serious. It’s a fish less tank with just coral and cuc. Emerald crabs and snails

My emerald crab eats everything. You may have had these longer than you know but they have been eaten. Hard to really tell from the picks though.

I’d agree if the emerald crabs didn’t go in yesterday. Almost would argue they brought the stuff in

Looks like halymenia (dragon's breath) and/or gracilaria. New growth on red macros can come in orange under blue lights. They can pop up over night. They look great once they grow out. Brighter light will make them fade to a clearer more transparent color. Less light for a deeper red.
