it's alright i love fish and the hobby, being a noob i am looking for advice from everywhere, i will keep my ammonias down and watch my nitrites, i will do a water change in the morning and get that ammonia down, and just keep an eye on the ammonia and nitrites after that. no more livestock is going in either till my cycle is over

@DeathlyxD I can't speak for everyone else (although I'm sure I am as well) but none of us mean to be rude or mean and if we came off that way I apologize. We all just want to see you succeed in this wonderful hobby and enjoy your reef I would still suggest you return two of your new tank mates for store credit and pick up a couple quality test kits and maybe some extra salt for more water changes if you need to

the experts at highly reviewed stores have tested my water and have said it was alright to cycle my tank using fish, i highly doubt they would have sold me fish knowing they wouldnt survive

4 clownfish in a small tank is also not a good idea. They grow up, pair off, spawn and may even kill other clowns since they are territorial and protective.

I would return two of them.

You can buy some bottled bacteria like biospira to help speed up your cycle for your inhabitants since ammonia is toxic. I am not sure if the corals will survive or not, they look like mushrooms so they might.

i have used bacteria, i am currently using Top Fins nitrifying bacteria

yes i do have a skimmer i havent set it up yet, and the bottle calls for 20ml for every 10 gallons at first when i started the tank before any fish were put in i used 70ml, and then today a week after that i added 45ml more

There is no need to apologise, as mentioned above it’s not hate you are getting and most people are really trying to help you in their own way. If I sometimes come across as quite blunt that is my shortcomings but find that is often the best way of getting through how serious some issues are and comes from my love of the hobby and the livestock we keep.

The best advice I can ever give is for somebody to research as much as they can before they act and never ever just take an lfs word for anything. I wouldn’t keep 2 pairs of clowns in a 5 foot tank and you shouldn’t have been sold them at the end of the day.

This is an issue with the community and not you. There is no need to apologize, just take what you can and learn from it. There will ALWAYS be haters.

I agree here, multiple clownfish is difficult for any person to maintain especially someone new to the hobby. I would get a bacteria that you add daily to help and remember that you really cant add too much!

This is also good because the skimmer will remove any bacteria that gets caught up in it. With the bio load that you have, I would not recommend a few days but rather a few hours after you have added your bacteria.

Match the salinity and temperature once the newly water is mixed.

I’ve only been a reefer for 7 months. There is so much to learn and so many mistakes to make. Trying to recreate the ocean is something else! When I set up my 125, the fish store wanted to see my levels and didn’t sell me fish until at least 6 weeks past. Try watching the 52 weeks of reefing from BRS (bulkreefsupply) on you tube. They go over every step of the way. It’s all part of learning. Good luck

The first thing a reputable LFS should sell you is a top of the line test kit along with your aquarium. If my LFS had done that I would have had a lot less losses.

The Top Fin stuff is junk and for freshwater. You should get either some biospira, dr. tims one and only nitrifying bacteria, or some fritz turbostart 900. The last 2 seem to be the best.
