Hi,

Hi I have just started a reef system for cycling, put in the live rock today and noticed two green mottled slugs with what appeared to be purple shells.

Please let me know are these bad pests or good additions to the tank? I wasn’t able to find anything like them online. Any idea of species?

Ok so after some sluthing I think they are Haliotis asinina or donkeys ear abalone

will these survive a tank cycle in anyones opinion? Must be fairly hardy if the came on the live rock

edit also known as green abalone racer

those will do the work of 10+ sea hares, great find. not sure if it'll survive cycling though, mollusks in general are pretty intolerant of ammonia.

I have 2, but I paid over $30 each for them. Nice score!
You’ll absolutely need to supplement them with algae sheets. My big one (over 6”) eats a sheet at least 3-4 times a week in my 150 display.
