Welcome home, you will love it here!

Beautiful clams, thanks for sharing! :)

Impressive tank! Since this is about clams how long have you had that maxima? It's probably just the pic but that doesn't look like a very high light spot?
I've had that Maxima for about 4-5 months. High light spot? Educate me. It's in the sand are you suggesting to pull it out from the rock formation so it has more direct light from the radion lighting? He/She seems to be doing ok so is the ole adage if it isn't broken, don't fix it?

4-5 months is good news! If possible could you take a close up picture of his shell? Looking for white new growth on the edge where the mantle and shell meet. They are my favorite reef animal too so just want to make sure things are looking good!

Generally these maximas need a whole heap of light. I have found 200 or so PAR for large maximas and looks like it might be around lower light corals is all I was thinking. But the tank looks really great! If it's been 5 full months then I wouldn't worry too much though.

@hart24601 Whew! I'll snap a pic when I get home. Unless I move things and nestle them on a rock I'm not sure I have much of a choice other than to lay clams in the sand. I had put it close to the rock so that it wouldn't keep turning around and I could see it open. I think I'm going to be ordering some more clams today #yesihaveaproblem :)
It looks like the ones I'm going to get are on the small side, about 2.5" so I'll try to put them in the sand but those suckers always seem to move out of place. Any other ideas so they stay somewhat fixed and not picked up by an urchin, etc.?

What species of clams are you getting? That impacts the light requirements.

It can be quite hard to get them positioned. Ideally they come attached or attach themselves to a rock, especially maximas. Then you can glue the rock wherever you need. To further complicate things even different individuals in the same species can have drastically different lighting needs.

What type of lights are you running if I missed it already?

You might be getting to technical for me at this point. I'm pretty sure they are Radion Echotech Marine XR3ow and there are 2 of them and it's on one of those default reef settings relative to timings and intensity... I was going to get some of the clams from the site suggested on this thread, from Austin Aqua farms...https://www.austinaquafarms.com/product-category/clam/ I thought they usually come lose, or at least the smaller ones I got from Live Aquaria did. But if to a rock, that would make life easier, I suppose. Thanks for the help!

Those clams do looks great!

No worries, you can browse the clam forum for lots of good advise and make a new post over there for specific questions too. I don't want to take away from your into thread! Enjoy!

Trouble, I haven't surfed the site yet to see a specific "clam" forum lol. This thread can be whatever... Seems like I will learn a lot on this site for sure. Cheers.
