New Reefer - durso drain bulkhead plumbing issue

Hello, I am new to the hobby and hopefully have my first tank up and running soon!

I bought a 90 gallon single overflow a long time ago when I was a student and now that I have a a house I am setting it up in my basement. I built a small room for it to show through the wall.

my current issue is it came with a durso kit that was already assembled. The drain piping looks to be 1 1/4” and bulkhead has a barbed fitting on the end. I am in northern canada and the plumbing stores had pour selection. 1/2” and 3/4” pvc does not fit for the inside and I am trying to avoid using vinyl piping so I can get a gate valve.

any recommendations?

Can you post a picture of both the return and drain plumbing?

You can use vinyl piping and still hook it up with a gate valve . You would have to order fittings that one end is hole barb and other threaded or not threaded depending on the gate valve you have . But if you want it to be rigid I’m sure brs supply probably can hook you up

I currently do not have any plumbing hooked up so I am able to make adjustments

Looks like a 3/4” return and drain reduced to 1”. I see no issues with using vinyl tubing and adding a barbed fitting for a gate valve. Otherwise you’d have to buy new bulkheads.

You could buy a new bulkhead and then use appropriate pvc.
Would not put a valve on a single drain and personally would drill another hole, this way you can do herbie style (two drains) plumbing

Mine only had two drains so I did it herbie style... with hard plumbing and instead of drilling a hole.. I had the return come back over the top.

I would never run a single drain.. not just because of a clog but because of potential noise.

Conclusion - I am going to order new slip x slip bulkheads and change it up to a herbie drain with return going over the top. Thanks for the recommendations !
