New Reefer: Finished DIY stand, Need sump / filtration help

Hiya

After much research i decided to scratch the particle board stand that came with tank and build my own. I just finished building stand, but i need help now planning sump/plumbing


Back of tank can fit 5 ft long x 18.5 inch deep x 23 inch high


Should I use a 55 gallon or what should i do?


Also looks like most protein skimmers are about 24 inch high so idk if i can fit , luckily i have few inches between top beam





Tank is 125 and I want to do mixed reef. Thank you for any input

55 gallon tanks are so narrow that they aren't very practical imo. It looks like you can just barely fit a 40b sump. And as for height I'm sure there are lots of skimmers you can fit. For my ~130g system I use an sca-302 skimmer. It would fit fine with the height you have but it is a budget skimmer so I'm sure you could find a higher end one if you prefer.

I also don't like jamming a huge tank down there since it makes it uncomfortable to work. I think the 40b will be much more comfortable
