Hello everyone! I am new to reefing started my first fish tank ever in November of 2017. Its a 240 gallon. MRC reef sump with reef octopus 220S skimmer, all fully controlled by the Apex. T5 retrofit like kit from BRS with 4 Kessil A360 lights. Tank has been cycled for a month now and I have a few fish in there. Everything looks good and seems really happy! I only put lights up a week ago and have hopefully avoided a huge algae bloom. I guess we will see.

Be sure to create a build thread in member tanks so we can all follow along :)

Welcome
Very nice setup
Keep the lights low slowly raise the intensity
Tangs will help with algae

I asked some people about tangs, cause that's what I had planned on doing. They told me not to put tangs in there yet, to wait for a couple of months, and make them the last fish I put in there. Can I add some tangs now?

Do you have a list of what tangs you want to put in

Generally you want to put all tangs at once they don’t have to be last just some of the last

I would like to have:
(1) Blonde Naso Tang
(1) Emperor Tang
(1) Powder Blue Tang
(1) Convict Tang
(2) Yellow Tangs
And eventually a Moorish Idol!

Naso tangs are the most docile out of that group
Powder blue is the biggest bully out of the group (and should be added last or not at all) besides being a ick magnet

How big did you want to add
smaller juveniles will have less aggression and less of a bioload grow with your tank

Your tank is too new for that many fish you will have to wait at least 3-5 months before adding that many at once

If you want a tang now i would add the naso now and in like 4 months you can add all the others the aggression shouldn’t be a problem, if it is just replace the naso before they get territorial

I want all my fish to be added as juveniles, I think it will be cool to watch them grow up!
