Yeah it is the Evo 5g and I am running into a salinity issue. In the tank it was 1.04 so I changed out 1/3 of it with what I had left from The Fish Gallery here in Houston and the water that was left is also at 1.04 so I'm not sure if they have their water set to that or if the water just went "bad" lol. I'm going to bring some distilled into work tomorrow and try to lower the salinity, unless I can get RO water from the store.
I kept hitting 1.030-1.033 until I got a handle on things. Now I adjust it biweekly with a 1/2 change out and just top off every other day in between. I use the level of the return chamber as a marker to how much RO to add while the pump is running. 5g can be a little tricky but all good now.

Hello and Welcome to R2R! I wish you the best of luck with your tank. My first tank was a 180 and really enjoyed it. I made many mistakes. With the help of site, I have acquired much needed knowledge. I'm still blown away at how much some of the members know!

Hope the build is going well and you were able to wring out the salinity issues! I think with picos you really gotta pay attention to evaporation (be sure to replenish evaporated saltwater with RODI FRESHWATER) and have a good salinity tester on deck

Welcome :)

Hello all,

For a long time I've done high tech planted aquariums so I finally decided to branch into saltwater, and what better way to start than a pico.....lol, yeah right. Anyway, I've come here looking for answers to any questions I might have and maybe one day to be able to provide answers.

Welcome to Reef2Reef! Watch your algae growth! Some zoas, and green hairy mushrooms are good corals to start with. FIsh wise some firefish, clownfish, and a royal gramma just a few that you could get. There are more but your tank is a pico. Also I'm not familiar with pico tanks but you should top off the tank to the top... Only leave an inch or two so you can get your hands in there.
