New reefer

Hey there,
I’m 13 years old and want to start a reef tank. I have decided to get a 120 gallon tank. Since I’m in Bangladesh, we need a chiller and so I can’t get a very big sump. I will probably be able to get a 30-40 gallon sump. I really want to know what fish, inverts and cuc I can have in the tank. Im asking now as I want to do my proper research before getting them (I will get them by the end of this year or the beginning of the next year when we get a bigger house). Another reason is because in Bangladesh, everything related to reefing is expensive and really hard to find. Can u please help me. I would really appreciate it.

I was about your age when I started the hobby and that was almost 30 years ago! Wish you many years of success.

you’re asking the right and most important question to be successful long term in this hobby, which is what should you keep and very important to do lots of research, never rush into decisions and be patient. Things take time in this hobby but it can be very rewarding to achieve your goals with the tank after putting in the hard work.

I’d start with some hardy fish like damsels, clownfish and wrasses.

I also grew up in a tropical climate and have run chillers on every tank I’ve had. My recommendation is to also run fans to help with evaporative cooling. It really helps!

To answer your question about inverts, it really depends on what you want to keep and what equipment you’ll be running.
A 120 gal and 40 gal sump is plenty of water volume for a reef tank and you should be able to eventually get up to a good bio load, but do it slowly.
