I just opened up my new milwaukee MA887. I calibrated using only steam distilled water as it says to only use that to calibrate. My tank has had algae issues even though I have a nice fuge. I read an article and realized I really needed a good refractometer. So I got the best one I could find since I plan on getting a bigger tank soon. It read 1.029 while my hydrometer read just barely below 1.025. Still high. I checked a half hour after adding a little RO(2 red solo cups, my tank is 30 gallons) . Still 1.029. I cleaned the MA887 each time as it suggested, and used different pipettes for salt/distilled water. I triple checked by adding about half my tank water and (probably less than) half distilled to a sample. It read 1.026. So I know it is reading ok. Just not sure if I can use calibration fluid with this model. I just ordered some from premium aquatic. I will be so freaked out if my tank has been running that high. But it looks like it is....
