I recently just got a hob overflow and a return pump setup to run a sump, and ever since my skimmer hasn't produced anything except tons of ultra fine micro-bubbles. No foam at all being produced, and hasn't pulled anything out of the water in 3 days now. I'm a little concerned about that as a carbon doser, but I've cut it way back until the chemistry sorts out. I understand I can run a filter sock to help with the bubbles, but mostly... is it really possible the return pump and it's MFG oils are causing the problem just like buying a new skimmer can sometimes do? Or do I need to look further into the skimmer? I totally dissasembled and cleaned as much as I could after the problem started, except the pump (just cleaned it a week ago and it still looked good). I'm rather reluctant to clean the pump as it gets noisy for a few days after losing the slime coat. Visual inspection was solid though. Is it time for a new skimmer? Or is this growing pains of adding the sump and return pump?
