How’s everyone doing?
About 7 years ago I got into the saltwater aquarium hobby as a solution to wanting a “pet”, yet not wanting the mess. I was moving into my first apartment and settled on the idea of having a fish tank. After walking into the LFS, I was told to “go home and read” first. I did so and came back a couple months later with cash, ready to buy everything I needed. I ended up buying a fully set up 55g FOWLR tank from the tattoo shop across the street that was for sale. Long story short... after about two years of almost all the ups and downs this hobby can bring, life led me to selling my tank (at the time it was a 29g bio cube).
Fast forward 5 years. I bought a house, I’m well into my career, I am “stable” (or at least in comparison to the 19yr old moving 3 times in two years. Maybe the better word would be “settled”. haha). Last November I suggest to my girlfriend that we set up a tank. After 6 months of planning, design, budgeting, and executing... I have my 75g mixed reef (I’ll include pictures once I figure out how to load them from my phone). It’s amazing to me how much the hobby has grown and how much the industry has changed. Years ago, forums were a thing but I never got into them. I decided to utilize every resource I possibly can this time around. So... I guess this is my introduction to all of you! I gave you a quick synopsis of my background so you can know a little more about me. I’d like to think I know quite a bit about reef-keeping at this point.. but if I know one thing for certain, it’s that you can never know enough. && with that said, I’m always willing to learn more or challenge what I may already “know”.
I guess I’ll leave it at that and say that I look forward to interacting with everyone! I’m in SoCal so I plan on traveling to check out different fish stores, local events, and definitely Reef-A-Palooza that’s coming up here next month so hopefully I can meet some of you in person as well!
Thanks!
