Bought this last week from AquaSD. I really don’t have concerns, but I think I was just expecting something bigger.

Is it definitely a Magnifica/Ritteri?

Tight mouth, foot attached very well, doesn’t show any signs of being unhealthy. But doesn’t inflate anymore then what you see here. Maybe 4-5” across. Hell, I’ve just never seen a baby one, maybe that’s what this is. Other then that completely happy. Hoping he colors up, but if not it’s fine the way it is.

Tanks is over a year old and I have two other Haddoni that have been in the tank for 9 months.

All parameters are normal, with a 8dkh. 77 degrees and 1.25 salinity.

It is hard to tell in your video since there aren’t any close ups, but it has the look of a mag to me. I’ve gotten smaller mags than that before (like the size of a small orange) and after feeding it for a year+ it outgrew my 120 g. That’s mainly why I don’t feed my anemones anymore, they’ll grow to be giants if you feed regularly. Great find and best of luck with it!

Well, that’s the reply I was hoping for. I guess I just haven’t seen them small. I guess I should be happy it seems healthy for the past 4 days. It’s sitting right in the gyre stream and under the HD26. And yeah I would be perfectly ok with it covering the surface of my 4’ tank, Buy my main concern with it growing is that I don’t have a flat spot large enough for his foot to grow and spread out. Hopefully it will adapt, as I assume it will. If not ill fill in and smooth out the top surface of the rock he’s on. Thanks for the response.

some will disagree...But I say -it's getting blown too much...they cant handle flow -but not the kind I see in that video. try to adjust to make a more "natural"/ flow

They can shrink surprisingly small. Once you dial in the flow and it gets accustomed to its new home, it will spread and become much fuller. My mag is my favorite

He’s never deflated or expelled waste any zoos. He’s getting a little more inflated every day. I think the flow is good, I think we underestimate the water movement these things are getting in nature. Can’t really be reproduced, but we do our best. It’s a variable gyre flow in a 24 hour schedule so it does get some lower flow at non peak times.

my 2 gyres are at opposite ends of the tank. on the right 1s 50% continuous and on the left is 40% pulsing. the ritteri I have sits near the middle and gets a nice natural flow...with a few "gusts" and ebbs...at night It goes down to 30/20...HTH

He looks like a Magnifica. For ID purposes, clear photographs of the anemone tentacles, mouth and column if possible for more positive ID.

I’ll do that, Minh. When I can get a clear shot of all that I’ll post it up. Still looking good, I know a few days in that it means nothing...

A few days actually means a lot with these anemones. You’d be seeing signs of distress by now if there were any issues with it.

Here is mine I ordered from them. Looks just like yours. They are pretty flat. Mine is now in the tank and climbed right on top a rock that gets quite a bit of random flow from my sea swirl returns. It does get a moment or 2 or quiet time.

Best I could get. Didn’t want to open up enough to get a clear shot, and also not extending enough to get a good column shot. I’ll have to hope for one in the future.

I’m also curious, is this pale off white color a common color? Or would I expect him to color up a bit and this is just from loss of zooanthelle?

Mine is a little light in color. Not dark blue or dark purple.

He is a Magnifica. He seem to be locally light in a few spots due to loss of zooanthelle but should recover fine since he still not significantly bleached. Will be fine give good care.

I did change the gyre to a vertical position as opposed to horizontal due to how high the anemone is in the tank and wanting to give it more of a “natural” flow. I did that a few days ago and have seen a lot of positive response. He’s fed and is also hosting my female frostbite now. Here is an updated video. Those of you that are experts please let me know if you feel this still looks promising :) sorry about the lighting, it’s almost out for the night so very actinic.

looks better...
