New RO 150 Skimmer

Hi All Got my new RO 150 skimmer from BRS it has been setup 3 days currently in 11 inch water

. As you can see it started pulling junk my question is do I need change the water level from 11 to 8-9 inch as recommended by many, any advice is appreciated

Most of us end up using eggcrate or PVC to create a platform to place it at optimum level, it's not a must, but key word is optimum
