So I just got some new rock from Pristine Rock and I was curious - I've never used brand new rock before, always dry rock from other aquariums. This is going to go in an existing aquarium that is already running. I've been planning on redoing the rock scape and got this to add to the existing. Do I need to do anything beyond rinsing it off good to prep it before putting it in the tank?

If it’s “live rock” with an established bacterial culture and other goodies on it, you don’t want to rinse it off because it will kill that stuff. You can place it in your established tank but there is usually some die off and it may need to cycle. Other option is to place it in some type of plastic container with fresh saltwater, heater and pump for flow until it has cycled, then it will be good to go. One note of caution. Sometimes rocks from other tanks can carry dormant parasites. You may want to let it go through a fallow period for any parasite to die off before introducing it to your main tank.

It's not. I believe it is brand new rock. Have you seen the rocks that they basically build by gluing sand into a shape? It seems like it might be something similar to that. I'm not sure how else to describe it.

In that case a quick rinse and your good to go. Some like to aquascape outside of the tank before placing it in the DT. Enjoy.
