New Royal Gramma Basslet

Hey!
I got a Royal Gramma Basslet on Friday, we’re now 3 days in and I haven’t seen at all him since I put him in the tank..
At what point should I be dismantling the rock work to find him before he starves to death (if he’s not dead already?)

They are extremely good at hiding. I can go weeks without seeing mine and then he will pop up. Mine is super shy and hides whenever I come by the tank.

And if you decide to take your rock work apart, be carful because they like to hide in the rocks in tiny holes.

I guess I was lucky with my last one, he was out and about all day

should I assume he’s finding bits of food?
I don’t mind if he hides for a bit in the beginning, just don’t want him to be dead..

How big is your tank? What are you feeding? Mine would eventually come out when I would put in frozen food.

I didn't see mine for months, about 3 to be more exact, I was cleaning the sump and found him in there. No harm, grabbed him and in the tank he went, now has moved from that 120 to the 220 and is out as long as the blue lights are on. Eats mysis, flake, pellets etc.

Any qt before buying? Just asking as there is a risk for disease.
Also check filters (mine vanished for a week and I found him there) and around the tank.
My guy says he’s just hiding though, they do that.

So it’s a 75g.
I’ve got a decent amount of rock work pic below.
I know that my damsels were rough on my last gramma for the first few days and then they left him alone, but here I haven’t seen him at all.

i Feed a mix of frozen mysis, brine, pellets and a shell here and there for my Valentini.

While I’m at it, I’m struggling to feed my Bicolor.. he’s pecking on rocks all day, but not touching food by feeding

not sure how he’s alive unless he’s finding more than I realize.. but is there something I should feed to Really entice it?

I've got two grammas that never come out of the rocks. Kind of a waste having them in the tank. I broadcast feed twice a day so I guess they are getting enough from that.

I decided to put flakes in the tank just in case that will do it for him or the bicolor.
He just poked his head out for it

i really hope he won’t be one of those :/ that sucks

My last one was always front and center in the tank..

I hope you have better luck than mine. Mine is 4 years old and I rarely see him. He will show his face if someone gets close to his cave, but thats it.

Mine has gone into hiding/died. Had it for 4 months & it was out all day every day. Its been a week now & not seen it once

I had a look at the rock he goes in when I was doing some maintenance yesterday but no joy.§

Don’t give up yet, you never know. Definitely check filters.

I'm on Mark III (the first two never left the rocks). This new one lives under a powerhead. No, seriously - the space between the magnet and the back of the gyre is his "fish cave". Comes out for feeding then whoosh! Back under the gyre.
