Hi. Some one can tell me for how long can I store new salt water?. I am planing to turn on a wavemaker in the container for 5 hours a day. Thanks.

I know reef crystals contains some extras and I found when I stored it for 2 weeks it had an odd smell. Still used it and never had issues. I know probiotic salts contain more than just salt. Wether they are stable unheated and stirred I don't know.

Like randy said after the initial mix as long as it is stored in a good container there are no worries. You will loose some alk and cal but not enough to worry about. I have stored for more than a month with no issues. After water is mixed it is stable, running a pump will actually cause the cloudiness which is precipitate. I have found it best to mix the water over a few hours and let it sit. I mix 60 gallons at a time.

I agree and should have been clearer. I wouldn't store Reef Crystals long as the vitamins will degrade and may drive bacterial growth.

Are you talking about storing new salt here or about storing made up saltwater?

The dry salt is OK to store, but vitamins may still slowly degrade (although I do not think them especially useful anyway). But once dissolved, the potential degradation is MUCH faster, as is bacterial growth.

I use red sea or IO regular. The added elements in the special blends seem to cause problems with cloudy water. I try and match the ocean with my tank anyways. Seems to be more stable.
