I am new to the forum but have had fish tanks for over 50 years now. The last 20 years I’ve had mostly FOWLR set ups. Over the years I’ve had fish an average of 5 years having a clown trigger for 20 years. Lately the fish I am buying are not living more than a couple weeks and are getting sick within the first few days with mostly velvet or flukes. In the past I May lose 1 fish per year and sometimes none at all.
Here is my question. I know the oceans are warmer this year and many reefs have bleached. I’m wondering if anyone else is having a problem with getting new fish this year that are not living more than a week or two

I think if that were the case, the shores would be full of dead fish. But an interesting hypothesis.

Wondering if the fish are already stressed out upon capture. This is the first time I’ve had this problem tank is 125 gallon and I keep no more than 4 fish it it. Nitrates never get over 30

"couple weeks and are getting sick within the first few days with mostly velvet or flukes"-maybe the fish you are buying, or as you are suggesting that fish are more susceptible to illnesses because of their stressed state. I guess the importers would have the answer.

I know adding new fish is always risky to the others in the tank that are already established

I have two newer fish that I am treating for velvet and appears as if most of the visible signs are gone after a week. I’m going to run the treat for 4 weeks total to kill the eggs. The fish this year just seem very weak and prone to infection early on. I know summer in Florida is not the best time to buy them either
