I got a wet band saw from a guy that use to do mosaic tile work! It is super sweet, it has a try for water and everything and a variable speed controler.

Now my ? is would it be bad for the coral if I fraged it and used FW instead of SW. I don't want to have to completly rinse this thing out everytime I use it, but the cheap wet tile saw I had given to me, the plane on it is rusty now. I don't want this to get rusty!

What do ya'll think?

i use fw when i frag
i havent tried saltwater so dont really know what would happen but i thought it would rust so i just use fw

Brent I wouldnt imagine that a little amount of freshwater would do any harm. I know fragging stuff is generally fast about wouldnt involve the coral sitting in freshwater for too long.

WEll in that case I can't wait to see how she works! It is soOO sweet a little Ban saw with a tile blade, I can cut indy heads off small stuff If I have to!

getting ready for that swap are we? ;)

FO SHIZIL! I can't expect BOB to frag all my stuff LOL, BTW I lost my JDBM War Coral!! :(

Again LOST not died, I hate when that happens!!!!!!

OH Pat FWIW I talk to quite a few people that frag a ton and they deffinatly suggest SW from tank, wich is what I figuered and had been doin, it just makes sense it would just add unneeded stress.

Just mean more work for me, wich just adds to more time envoloed and a more expensive frag LOL
Let the flames began,

I use SW in my ring saw and tile saw. I do have to rinse the heck out of the ring saw after using it though--and it is still rusting a little.

I don't rinse the tile saw though---rust makes it look sexier. :D

The ring saws are great. A little rust means a lot. YOUR using it!!!! Mine has a few rust spots but not enough.

Yeha I know it's not mine I asked to buy it or trade for it and he said I could keep it till he needed it back, I don't like returning things in less than recieved condition. SO it will be alot of rinsing and wiping after every use!

i would use fw
i use fw in cutting all my aussie acans and i havent had a problem yet and no rusting, and the only thing i wipe off is the table
then again, i dont cut as many frags as mark does

Man that thing is annoyingly slow? Is that noraml forthat kinda saw, and I must be doin somethin wrong it keeps slipin off track! I reset it and tighten the tensioners, anyway it cuts real slow. Scare me?

What ya'll think how fast is your ring saw?

The band saw is probably slow for a reason. I use a regular Ryobi band saw and it's pretty slow---if I push too much-I have cracked the pieces I am cutting. Just let the blade do the work. It sometimes takes me a few minutes to cut with the band saw. Take the piece out and dip it in SW to cool it if you are really cutting steadily.

The ring saw is fast if it's just skeleton. Rock has already destroyed my thin blade....that was $70 with shipping.... :(

where did you buy yours from? and is there any reason except to reduce spray that I have to keep the housing on the top of it on?

I bought my bandsaw at Lowe's and my ring saw at Diamond Drill & Tool (or sumtin like that)

I wouldn't remove the housing!!! DANGER!! The wheels and belts are in there. You wouldn't want to get an appendage in there!

mvite: sounds like you toggle back and forth between the bandsaw and ring saw. May I ask what rules/guidelines you use to choose which saw you'll use?

Say for instance a chalice on a 2" thick piece of liverock vs. a chalice that is just skeleton (no base rock.)

Ditto for a blasto or acan.

Do you try to cut around polyps on a blasto/acan or just blast through it?

I've been using a bandsaw exclusively and it's OK... (Better than a dremmel IMHO.) Always looking for something better though! :D

I realy like using my ring saw after Ihave cut the coral off the rock it is on, then you take it to the ring saw and an cut around INDY polyps, the ring saw has a tray for water and I am guessing (neve used, the ban saw) that the Ban saw doesn't have a water tray.

The ring saw cuts from the side like a tile saw, Here is a pic of a Montestrea I cut some frags off of, I was able to wined around each head.

I am going to break into theses acan today, I have had for a few yrs but no one wants to buy the whole thing? SO they are getting fragged up

I think I am planning on having to rip it down with the Tile saw, then go in a groove out some heads.........?

Here is the colony side of the montestrea
