Hi guys, I have had some horrible experience ordering anemones online in the past…but a few days ago I saw a sebae anemone that was 60% off, so I wanted to give it another try. It arrived a few hours ago…and it’s kinda crumpled at the bottom of the tank, is that normal? does it look like a unhealthy anemone? or am I just being paranoid?

I thought sebae anemones were supposed to be white….or are they supposed to be more of a cream color?
Here is mine, it looked like yours when I got it. It still needs to grow, but you can see how much it has changed already. As far as I know, there are no photosynthetic anemones that should be all white. Yours will likely turn tan, green, or possibly purple.

Here are two photos of a bleached sebae anemone, 4 months ago and now. You can tell that part of the tentacles have regained photosynthetic zooxanthallaes, but it's still a long way to go. Patience and good water condition is key. I posted a thread on the initial acclimation which might be useful : https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/nursing-a-bleached-sebae-journey-of-first-10-days.1051731/

Looking good! Definitely starting to color up.

Have you been feeding it? the tentacles are looking a little stubby. Normally you shouldn’t have to feed them, but since it was bleached it probably started the re- absorb them for more energy, since it’s not getting the necessary amount from the zoox.

Yes, I’ve been feeding it small piece of scallop / squid 2-3 times a week per some others suggestion from this forum . But for the past few weeks feeding has been difficult, crabs and bristle worms were able to steal food from its mouth and even the hosted clownfish would often take the food away as if they were cleaning the debris off the nem…

I might quarantine it in a HT if it continues to struggle to eat .

You could feed it and put a plastic cup/container over it while it eats.

Thank you! The nem was attached to the corner of a relatively large rock at an angle that’s quite hard to cover. I was able to shield it from the clown fishes but bristle worm would still sneak in and stole the food away …

I’ve actually quarantined the Sebae anemone for the past 7 days, but it still refuses to eat , lost its stickiness on its tentacles and has been expelling zooxanthallae daily through its mouth . The only positive is that’s it’s foot sticks well, but other than that, I am quite worried about the trend.
