New set

This showed up today in my recently set up Aqurium(3-4 days) on a piece of live rock I bought from a pet store and I would like to save it. I know that my aquarium is not ready for corals at this point but is there any thing I can add or do to try to save this? I’m not new in the salt water hobby but I have never done corals in my 40 years of having aquariums. Help if you can. Thanks

Welcome to Reef 2 Reef. those are green star polyps and are a great beginner coral. They are tough as nails and will likely take over the tank if given the chance. How long have you had the tank up and running?

That’s green star polyps (gsp). Hardy coral once adjusted to the aquarium. I think you do not need to do anything at this point let it settle it in the aquarium. Make sure it’s in its separate area otherwise it can over grow onto any surface. If the tank is new, just make sure to keep the algae in control and do the weekly water changes as usual. GSP is a good beginner coral. If the polyps are opening that’s a good indicator of the water condition in the tank.

Thanks. Like I said I’ve had salt water aquariums for about 40 years but was never really interested in corals until now and that is why I set up this aquarium.

LIke as has been said, make sure you isolate it. If you don't, it can and will take over your tank. Once it gets into the rock, it's almost impossible to get out. I have several frags of it that i am planning on gluing to the back glass of my tank. GL with the new tank and welcome to R2R.

You can wipe out an entire tank of clove polyps or GSP with an in tank treatment of fenbendazole.
