First of all I made a Rookie mistake. by using tap water. no one at the LFS told me about that I couldn't when I talked to them. so I am going to drain most of my tank tonight and start back over. I don't have a roid system yet it's in the mail. I was looking at the local pet stores and there prices to setup my tank but it would cost me over 200 to do the water alone. I heard walmart once had RO water but not any more. well atleast not any close to me. I was looking at targets and saw the Market Pantry water. any recommendations. I have done a google search and haven't found much on this type of water. except in one site and seems to safe to use it for saltwater but not sure.

Distilled water for your initial fill up should be ok. Otherwise if they offer water that has been filtered through reverse osmosis that would work as well. Is there a Culligan water outlet near you? They will sell RO water as well for relatively inexpensive.

Patience my friend. I'm learning that in this hobby. So many beautiful fish...so many beautiful corals..but do it fast and do it wrong and you'll be doing it over and over and over again. When I don't have something in, I just read up on the next step. There is so much great information out there.
Wait until that RODI system is in and working...then wait until you have salt water, Then cycle...then fish. And so it goes!!
I bought my aquarium in December, traded it in Jan, bought another in Feb. I just started cycling my aquarium...and so it goes!!

unfortunately not any more. Alot of business come and go here farely quickly.

Actually I would not drain and refil the system. If you top off with rodi, do no water changes, and have thriving macro algae or an algae turf scrubber, the algae will remove the nasties over a few months. By using rodi and not doing water changes you will not be adding nasties like copper.

to late. I just drained my tank and the woman is cleaning it now. no biggy. I just got it and started the cycle 24 hours ago. so to me it's no big deal if I restart it again this early in the process. now if I was 3 weeks in that would be different

There could be lid besides copper and all the minerals. so Just better to restart from scratch with distilled water then i'll top it off with my rodi when it gets here. I'm gonna put the salt in the water and let it sit until I get home from work tomorrow. then I'll fill it and then start the whole process over again. take my base reading and journal it every day. So I can track it. I figured start the process. record my test readings and what and when I change the shrimp and the findings from day to day so I can remember and figure out if i'm heading towards the end of the cycling.

You can get an RODI system for just over $100 from Bulk Reef Supply or Spectrapure or others. I went with BRS because they have a pot load of you tube videos on setting up and running the systems. Making your own RODI is nice because you control it and know the quality instead of hoping someone else is doing it right. Also it is convenient. You don’t have to tote numerous buckets back and forth from your supplier. It is also cheaper..... in the long run. But sometimes it is not an option.

That'll probably work too. LOL
