New skimmer overflowing like crazy

Correct. You didn't install it wrong: there's only one way to install. You have to understand that this is a budget friendly skimmer: there is no off position so even if you set the dial to have the min amount of flow the pump is still running. And yes, to empty the cup you either have to unplug it, or like me, plug it into a $10 smart plug and turn it on or off via your phone.

Thank you for the help.

That is super disappointing from Bubble Magnus products. I get it isn't the most high end expensive product, they would be better off just leaving the "off" from the dial, since that's basically advertising an additional feature that isn't there. I've had cheaper skimmers that work better with that said. I'm currently also running a SCA 301 skimmer... weird that a $100 skimmer works better than a $180 skimmer. This one is my first Bubble Magnus product and probably my last if that's a demo of the quality to expect.

I will never own a bubble magus skimmer again, the amount of issues I have had with the last 2 are ridiculous. Mine is off right now and Im waiting on BRS to get a new shipment in of another brand.
If its a small tank get the ice cap one of the best things in my tank so easy to use

Not to brag my ice cap skimmer only took 2 days to break in :p
try an ultra reef akula, it doesnt need any break in time at all, just starts working TBH. But icecap and aquamax both make good cheaper dc skimmers worth checking out if on a budget
