New skimmer Skimz sk181

So, i finally bought a skimmer. went with a skimz sk181. Here's some pictures of this sexy piece of equipment haha i think the foot print is a good reason i went with this one. 8.4"x8.4" and the second is skimmer return is thru the bottom out of this slot which is under the skimmer and cause no microbubbles

I think the best part and main reason

now the sad part i need to make my 20g long sump and have a few questions
is a filter sock holder the way to go with the inline pipe? and is there a DIY for a holder?
skimmer got to be in 180-240mm(7-9.5") so go with 8.5" or 9"?
as any1 cut the side of a stand to place a sump in? thinking if i do a 25-30g(200-240lbs) WC then cut a hole big enough to fit the tank then brace with some 2x4 to add support be fine to do?

Here is a pic of my 20L sump and sk181

I made the baffles 9.5" high so I could adjust the hight of the skimmer if I wanted to. I'm using an eggcrate stand for the skimmer and I'm running it at 8.5". I threw together a filter sock holder with some scrap acrylic I had, the sock holders that are available put the sock under the water line. If you can fit it under your stand I'd recommend going with a 30L you'll appreciate the extra room. As for cutting you stand, post some pics so we can see what you have to work with.

the little nut that is under your adjustment knob you will want to tighten up. if you dont keep it tight it will not allow your gate to drop and you will have to push the knob down to seat the gate where it should be. this is the issure i have found on my SKIMZ and the only compaint i have with it. ill be super gluing mine so it stay in place soon.
