Bare with me as all I’ve ever owned was hob equipment, this is my first sump setup. Is this normal for a new skimmer in a new sump on a new tank? I’ve seen videos where a new skimmer is put online and the bubbles overflow the top lid but not so much that they are under the plate.

When I did the same, I was instructed to take the collection cup off and adjust the bubbles just to were the bubble do not overflow.

And 10 mins later, nope. It still may be too new and nothing to skim yet. I’ll have to try it in a few weeks maybe?

Keep it running it won't hurt anything. If you want, build a stand to bring it up in the sump so the bubbles won't overflow. It'll take a week or so but once it builds up a slime coat you'll be right as rain.
