Well I just got my new skimmer. Its a reef octopus bh100f hob. I hooked it up in the garage on a tank just to kinda get the feel of it before I put it on my tank. Bubbles pretty good but not what I expected. Will it get going better after it breaks in , or is this it. It is in clean water so I don't expect it to foam up any skimate. But I hope it bubbles and foams more then this on my actual tank.

Clean fresh water or clean salt water? Skimmers do nothing in fresh water..

I take care of a tank at a public facility that has that skimmer and frankly, I hate it. It never really works well if you have it on the side of a sump or tank where the water level will fluctuate then it sucks even worse. Just my humble opinion. Sell it get anything else

They are meant to be at a constant water level so if you have it in an evaporating part you aren't going to get much skimmate.. I have a reef Octo and I think it's one of the best safety nets you can have

Considering that new skimmers have a couple of weeks break in period, and you should clean the resin off the acrylic using vinegar. All this will make a big difference.

I have bh1000 hob on my 30- love it. Skim is a little wetter than id like but it def keeps the tank clean.
