New Suharsonoi frag!!!

Kinda stoked! This has been a holy grail for quite a while for me and this is a nice frag! Just a hint of blue on tips maybe will increase w stronger lighting I'm wondering. It's unfortunately going into an already fairly full 18 gal nano and its branching structure is far from compact so I'm having a bit of challenge in locating it to give it space and to also not detract too much from the sense of scale of the rest of the corals. But it has always seemed the epitome of exotic to me so I'm willing to compromise some. It's small enough that it will hopefully grow into the space I give it rather than having to jam a larger piece in unnaturally.

Great piece! I would have to say that the suhar is one that should get more attention than it does. I can't wait to grab one up for my new reef. Awesome coral! Congrats man.

Thanks. It came from CTE Aquatic in Baltimore. They have a few more frags left. $49 isn't too bad.

I guess it's a bit of an extreme growth form. Really almost barely looks like an acro at all. And what I've read seems to confirm it's being kinda delicate. I got good polyp extension as soon as it hit my tank so I'm encouraged for now. Also there only seem to be a few online vendors showing it in their catalogs. So maybe that's why you don't see or hear much of it.

The Simplex acro is another deepwater I'd like to try someday. Love that smooth smooth skin!

It's an easy acro. Mine is high up although I believe is a deep water acro if you leave it low the green color stays dark

TUSI, that colony is beautiful, but it's not a suharsonoi. The branches are very elongated and most often more pointy on A. sharsonoi.

Suharsonoi name is often used and 90% of the frags are not of that species I've seen being sold.

The colony I bought years ago looked like this. They used to come in all the time about 8-9 years ago and the elongated axial branches were always a distinct Id.

I wondered a little about that but thought perhaps it was because Tusi had it under brighter lighting. The difference as you point out seems to be the degree of elongation as well as the difference in taper on the upright branches.

I will be watching mine closely to see if it stays true to form. The reference states they are only gray in color. And have a very limited range in the wild.

+1 mine came from a colony structured identically to the pic just bright green

Rocky Mountain Frags was the only online place I came across offering something they are calling a suharsonoi. It looks to be a highlighter yellow-green that they are calling Limoncello. There may be others.
