I just unpacked a sump (commerical made), and the bottom is not flat. It rocks corner to corner almost 1/8". Seems like something I should return, but figured I'd check with everyone here.

It's fairly large, 36x24x16, so returning might be a hassle. It actually arrived via freight.

Edit to add: The sump is acrylic

What surface are you comparing it to?

If you are concerned, you can always put 1/8 or 3/8 neoprene foam under the sump to spread out any uneven force. Just like people do with their tanks.

I placed it on a concrete floor and a plywood stand top. Other objects sit flat, the sump doesn't

I'd be using a mat anyway, but obviously the difference is usually the tank itself would be flat. Wasn't sure if the sump would be structurally sound when holding 30+ gallons of water

Bump with a pic. I turned the sump over and placed a level diagonally across the bottom. This is how much it rocks.

Would you all be comfortable with this?

Use shims and cut a base for it, then shim it

Just contact the manufacture or return it and get another. Like they said above though I'd put neoprene mat under it either way it will even out an imperfections and stress.

agree contact mfg send pics, would try to get replacement ,poor quality control, poss to the point of stop pay on credit card,i think unacceptable ,yes you can level ,but should not have to ,with new product

Ahhh, its new. Yup- its a defect and manufacturer needs to make it right.

are all the corners the same heigth from top to bottom?

And are all the side panels all the same size for each side?

How in the heck... does that even happen. It is a fricking box with no top. I wonder what pieces are the wrong size.

Yes they are the same height, but somehow everything is a little twisted. Looking closer it seems a baffle was glued all out of whack and messed things up

Yea.. this should be returned and you should not have to pay for shipping either. Hopefully they tell you to just keep it and send you another. I dont see how adding water to flatten it out will solve any issue. Probably just create stress.

But a part of me also says if it gets hairy I would probably just shim it. It would work and bother me for a few months and then i would forget. The resale value on these thinhs are low after years of use. You end up giving it away or selling with the whole tank and stand.

yep big name, big mistake,i think you will have no prob w replacement, keep us updated

Just to follow up, coralvue/icecap are sending a replacement without hesitation and told me to keep the old one as well. Can't beat customer service like that.

hey, good to hear, head start on tank #2 ..lol

I had a feeling they would do that. Keep the old one. The cost of shipping it back costs more then the manufacturering in china. And once back it has 0 value.

Good to hear!
