Hey. Can you guys using trigger ruby sumps tell me what water level you run in the return section. I'm preparing to install my DIY ATO and need to know where to set it. Thanks.

The simplest (if you already have the tank up, etc - and the return pump in the return section) - is to fill the tank and sump - and run it so there is enough water in the return section that the pump does not 'bubble' - then double check by turning off the return - that the sump does not overflow when you shut it off.Hey. I hear ya. Just thought people using this sump might have found a preferred level that let the sump run quietly. I'm not worried about overflow. My old sump was much smaller and handled it. There should be enough excess volume even if I ran the return section even with the fuge section. I'll make sure I check it though. I'm not sure its possible to give a 'numeric answer' - ie. set your ATO level at x inches - simply because different pumps will displace different amounts of water. ie. If you use Pump A, 5 inches is correct if you use Pump B 6.5 inches is better. Hope this makes some sense
I have tested one a couple years ago (decided not to buy) - but - it was pretty quiet - unless the return section was 'low'. So - if you're sure that the amount of water from above (and the return off) is not going to overfill your sump - I would just try setting in your pump and setting the level wherever the pump does not suck up air with the water (with a little 'reserve', ie, extra).I hear ya.
