hello everyone...i recently started a new 72 bow front reef tank after having a 46 bow front reef tank. I am going from a canister filter to a sump and am having a few issues that I could use some help with. I made a video of the sound and where its coming from...ill attach it to the bottom of this post...it is pretty much finished except I am going to add a charcoal and phosphate filter to the left side. The first thing is that the sump is really loud. The noise is coming from the water coming into the tank and dropping in on the left side and the water coming out of the skimmer. Is there any way to make that sound less besides increasing the water level because from what I read I cant raise the water level anymore than the skimmer's flowing point. The second problem which is less important is micro bubbles. It is a brand new skimmer so it could be from that, but the sump has no place for a filter sock that I can find unless one of you can help. Would I be able to put the blue/white foam stuff in between where the water comes in and drops to the rock on the left or would that not have enough flow? All help is appreciated!!! Thanks!!

get rid of the blue poly filter and submerse your drain line under the water level in the sump. That is a wet dry style sump and the section that has the poly filter and is supposed to be filled with bio balls. I had one of those in the 90's and it was never quiet. Since you are not running bio floss or bio balls, just lower your drain under the water level that should take care of it.

I was talking about your main drain. on the skimmer side on that skimmer the gate valve is to control water height. I i would bring water height closer to the gate valve. I have seen others use a mesh screen on the output of the skimmer to quiet it down. I don't see why you couldn't submerse the drain with a 90. unless the manufacturer states that is has to be out of the water.

yeah it does say to keep the valve out above the water height but i could raise the water level to just under it...when you had the bioballs in was it quieter?
