Hello All,

I am about to embark on a big upgrade using my tax money from good ole Uncle Sam. I will be upgrading from a 75 gallon RR tank. Ive had this tank for almost 8 years and am about sick and tired of the numerous scratches on the front glass. Its to the point that it distracts from the beauty of the tank. So i went on craigslist to find a tank and low and behold i found the perfect tank. It is a 180 gallon RR tank with 2 corner overflows that comes with a stand. To all you experienced reefers out there i had a quick question. The guy is asking for $450 for both the tank and stand. Is this a good deal or should i try to talk him down to say $400? Please let me know what you guys think. Thanks

Here is a picture of the tank:

tank and stand only? if so i would try and knock him down a bit. I know my snag was once in a lifetime but i picked up a 60 gal acrylic tank, center overflow, fully plumbed with fuge, skimmer, return pump, stand, hood and retrofit lighting for $75. no joke

Pretty much cant beat that man. Id call that a STEAL. I have almost everything else i need besides a nice return pump, lighting and a few circulation powerheads. Currently I have (2) 150watt halides on my 75 but im debating on whether or not i should go with (3) 250watt halides or 8-10 T5s. Im going to miss the shimmer of the halides if i decide to go with T5s but i know my electric bill will be much cheaper. Ive heard the general rule of thumb is about $1.50 - $2 per gallon on used tanks.

Seems high to me unless they are absolutely perfect. Do you need the stand or will you make your own? A local place here was selling a 180RR for around $550 tank only. I'd go no more then $350 used again if perfect. Those come with a lifetime warranty but only to the original purchaser.

Come on dude, this guy is on crack. I promise you NO ONE else has called him on this. Don't be a sucker just because you are excited about getting a big tank. Offer $400 for ALL of it, lights included which I know nothing about, but will assume they are crap. If he says no, thank him for his time, tell him you are still looking and to call you if he changes his mind. I hate to see people pay way more then they need to for something. The rule is if something used cost more then 40% of the new price, get it new.
